4.0 out of 5 stars Another Priceless Album by Los Campesinos December 19, 2011

Having listened to Los Campesinos for a number of years now, I was anxious to finally listen to this new album. The Album has definitely not let down my expectations, it is quite similar in many ways to their earlier work, yet in my opinion it sounds somewhat more "pop-like" although not in a negative way. As always the lyrics are a joy to read, with clever, strange, original verses from love to eye colors. "It's only hope that springs eternal and that's the reason why this dripping from my heart is never running dry" from the eponymous track is a nice example of these amazing lyrics. It came with a DVD which was really funny, which you would guess if you've ever seen any of the Los Campesinos videos, they really do have a great sense of humor. If I had to compare it with earlier albums I would admitt that so far I have liked their other stuff more maybe just because I have got more time to listen to it. Anyway I'm highly pleased with this new album and I'm pretty sure any Los Campesinos! fan would be pleased too.

Hello Sadness is a solid assault of sadness and anger through and through. The album is not as emo as I just made it sound, but it isn't a happy album, in fact it seems sort of like a concept album about sadness. The album as a whole might have been better with more of an ebb and flow with the sadness, but Los Campesinos! instead went for pure heartfelt sadness and anger. For me, that prevents it being a classic, it fills it's niche very well.

What I enjoy most about Los Campesinos! is their cleaver word play, and this album delvers. I could list some them, but of course it doesn't sound as clever out of context, and frankly, I am terrible at remembering lyrics. Overall, I was pleased, but not terribly excited about this album, but then my enjoyment of it was taken to another level by seeing Los Campesinos live in Portland... In fact, they were so good I went twice (even got to chat with Kim)! Frankly, I surprised that Los Campesinos! aren't more popular, normally I don't like bands that are as obscure as Los Campesinos! seem to be. I hope they continue to make music!
