Book Description

May 7, 2009
An enlightening and sociologically important work of children’s fiction, Hello (Shalom), My Name Is Sasha Feinstein is the follow-up to Hello, My Name Is Josie Mae Bricker. In this sequel, Antonia Harlan looks at the Jewish culture and makes a powerful impact on how young people consider and approach customs, traditions, ethnicities, and ways of life that are different from their own. Meet Sasha, a seventh grader who is trying very hard to be accepted at a new school for who he is and, ultimately, what he stands for and believes in. As his classmates try to belittle, make fun of, and even rename him, Sasha learns that he is incredibly proud to be Jewish. His family’s history is one of survival and endurance. As he and his class revisit the Holocaust through stories from his grandmother, who endured Auschwitz, they and their teacher are provided an intimate portrait of the atrocities of the Holocaust and what it means to be Jewish. Also available in hardcover at BookSurge.
