2.0 out of 5 stars Preach the gospel - Not the law.
Review by Pastor Eddie Hughes... I completely relate to Ray Comfort's problem with so many reported conversions and so few who seem to stick and grow spiritually. That problem however, has been around as long as the gospel and the answer is to improve as much as we can in our discipleship efforts --- not in evangelism methods. We don't go back to being ministers of the...

Without conviction of sin there is no confession of sin; without confession of sin there is no repentence of sin; without repentence of sin there is no salvation from sin. Faithful to the Bible, Ray Comfort, practices and in Hell's Best Kept Secret promotes a radical form of evangelism that begins with the premise that the Law of God condemns to eternal damnation those who are yet under the mastery of our sins. Without this conviction, why should there be any imperative to believe the good news that Jesus Christ died so that we can be forgiven, through faith in Him, for our sins and that He arose from the dead so that we too can have eternal life? Ray is grieved by the shallowness of many cheap, easy-believer, feel-good temporary professions of faith that are in response to a watered-down Gospel. As an counterpoint, he does not mince any words with his accurate and comprehensive restatement of Christ's authentic Gospel. This book is refreshing in its tough honesty. Because it conforms to Biblical truth, it is powerful in its conclusions. Hell's Best Kept Secret is the most convicting, provoking and reassuring book on evangelism I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interested in Evangelism? Read this book!, December 4, 1999
I was talking to a friend whose church has recently begun using the Law out on the streets, and receiving the backlash for it. Christians scream at them for condemning sinners and not being kind...all because they do not understand the purpose of the Law.
In Hell's Best Kept Secret, Ray Comfort will teach you the purpose of the Law and how to use the Ten Commandments when speaking to a sinner so that he sees himself as he really is: a condemned sinner. Not condemned by you or me, but condemned by his own actions.
Ray will also teach you how to approach a person using the RCCR Principle - Relate, Create, Convict, Reveal - based on John 4.
I first read this book in late 1989, and it revolutionized the way I witness. The message contained in this book is so important that I've shared it on three continents, plus with people all over the world through the internet. One read of the book, and you'll find yourself wanting to purchase other copies to give to friends. The teaching is THAT important.
For more practical advice about witnessing, you may also want to purchase Ray's "How to Win Souls and Influence People." For more understanding of the purpose of the Law, you may want to purchase his soon to be re-released "God Has A Wonderful Plan for Your Life: The Myth of the Modern Message." And coming soon, "The Evidence Bible." Sorry for sounding like a commercial, but Ray's stuff is important for the Church. You can find out more by visiting his website.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Do NOT read this book!" - Satan, November 28, 2001
Satan does not want you to read this book! Though it has been out for a decade, it has really been continually suppressed by the Devil. Not anymore! With the Internet as a resource, as long as there are brothers like myself who are convicted of God's word, I will make sure that this secret is no longer kept hidden!

After four years of frustration in Campus Crusade using the Four Spiritual Laws to share the Gospel, I was greatly delighted to find Ray Comfort's audio message at his web site (raycomfort.com)! The issues I had seen in conversions were never dealt with since I became active in evangelism. No one wanted to touch it, everyone just encouraged me to continue sharing "God is love", "He offers a wonderful plan for you", and "make a decision for Christ!". But I knew what I saw. A lot of ppl were praying to receive Christ, but none of them were keeping in the faith (followup didn't work either). And then Ray Comfort hit the nail right on the head! I felt God placing an urgency in my heart to research this message and check it to Scripture so I ordered the book, video, whatever I could afford. And I can say that everything is Biblical... in fact, Ray Comfort stands on a cloud of witnesses that have gone before him with the same message!

John Wesley, the renown and highly successful open air preacher wrote to a young colleague of his, "Preace 90% law, 10% grace!" Martin Luther taught, "The first duty of the Gospel preacher is to declare God's law and show the nature of sin." In "Hell's Best Kept Secret", Ray Comfort has not invented a brand new concept, but he has rediscovered a secret to reaching the lost that has been suppressed by Satan in the last 100 years. He writes with conviction, Biblical insight, and wit!

It's time for followers of Christ to wake up, I think it's time for you to get this book! You can discover the same secret by reading through the many sermon notes and pages of books written by John Wesley, Martin Luther, Spurgeon, Charles Finney, and Jonathan Edwards... but it may serve your wallet and schedule right to just buy this (...) book (you can listen to him preach about it on his web site). Ray Comfort has done the research for you and with 15 years of daily open-air preaching/evangelism under his belt, he knows what he's talking about. He doesn't just talk the talk like most Christian authors do today... he walks the walk! He shares valuable insight that cannot be known without the vigorous evangelism he has done. But don't take my word for it, get the video by the same name, it contains videos of his open-air preaching sessions and interviews with pedestrians that really amplify the truth of the message.

Before you can tell someone of the cure, or even tell them about the impending death, you must convince them that they have a disease. Only God's law can convince and convict the sinner of His sin before God.

Press on Mr. Ray Comfort, I just shared the Gospel using the new Biblical approach and brought my cousin to Christ after Thanksgiving day! Someone who would've never responded to a 4 Spiritual Laws presentation! Hallelujah!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must need for any Great commission obeying Christian!!!, October 27, 2001
By
Edward S Tsai (Union City, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This book has revolutionized the way I approach evangelism. Ray Comfort comprehensively outlines the Biblical approach to evangelism, using God's law to bring people to realize that they are sinners before God and will face judgement because of their disobedience (such through the ten commandments). It seriously addresses the modern gospel preaching problem where we talk about God's love but not sin, which produces so called "back sliders" in church... people who haven't made a concious decision to turn from their sin and live for Jesus. At the same time Ray explains and gives a balanced view on the different approaches on evangelism, such as lifestyle and such and their place, but importantly that we need to bring sinners to understand that they already are under God's judgement and need to turn to Him.

If you are a church leader, are an evangelist, or just obeying God's commandment to preach the gospel, you should definitely read this book! I've ordered ~120 copies (60 of this, 60 of another of his books) and given them free to people at my church retreat because it is really that good. (...)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
America needs a "Great Awaekening" but before we get a great awaekening we are going get a rude awaekening. I read this book and applied some of these truths into the life of my church and the results have been great. We taught a class using this book as the foundation. This book is full of truth and will blow much of the puke-inducing "life enhancement" message of today out of the water. The message that is preached by many churches and by most TV Evangilists in our day is a counterfit gospel and therefore must produce conterfit converts. The "Seeker Sensitive" message has done little but produce a generation of sensitive seekers. Chritianity by it's very nature should be more about Christ than it is about the people being preached to. Get this book ... read it and apply it ... and watch your converts stay saved ... that way we can get on with the job of seeing more saved and spend less time keeping the saved saved thru endless, fruitless hours of counceling.

Thanks Ray for teaching us how to preach the Gospel the way it was and should be preached.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing, April 18, 2004
By A Customer
I can't say enough good things about this book. Ray Comfort has written a great book. This book should be required reading for everyone who professes to be a Christian.

At first, I have to admit I was skeptical. I have never heard of using the law in evangelism. It flies in the face of modern evangelistic methods. But Ray Comfort convinced me. I have also done some online research and have found that Ray Comfort his not the only person who talks about false conversions and using the law.

This book was life-changing for me. This book has caused me to re-evaluate many of my views about evangelism and has forced me to face the reality of false conversion in my own life. I don't have to words to express how thankful I am for this book. My life will never be the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective Elucidated Evangelism, January 17, 2004
This book is good for its intentions to reveal the secret of evangelism. Comfort talks about how to approach evangelism and get lasting results. Basically the secret to effective evangelism is not getting to people through emotions. The law of the Lord is what should bring people to Christ. Comfort explains the reason why this is not just an effective way, but it should be the only way. Going a different route leads to many ?back-sliders?, because of false conversion. He gives examples, in his experience, of people who have been effectively evangelized to and of people who haven?t. On the cover it says that everybody who has a burden for lost souls should have the book. I also say the same thing. If you truly want to bring people to Christ, and know it is a sure thing, you should buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book every Christian needs to read!, August 30, 1999
By A Customer
Here is a book that takes the Christian through every step of sharing their faith with others and in the most biblically founded way. He uses a vast amount of Scripture references throughout so you can see for yourself the foundation of evangelism. It is full of great spiritual truths - some of which may not be easy to "swallow" for some of today's modern Christians. He has a wonderful sense of humor and a way of drawing mental pictures so you can understand, in today's context, the purpose and challenge in witnessing. He draws from the wisdom of our "fathers" in the faith and shows us how to effectively use their techniques in today's society. A valuable evangelical resource and one that every professing Christian should read - perhaps more than once! Beware, you may find yourself being converted!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this as many times as you humanly can, November 16, 2001

Logic, humor, and wisdom that spans from God Himself. This is the stuff that Christians should get a handle on. It's one of the most politically correct Christian books ever written. Forget the movies, forget the CDs, and even forget other Christian books, get this one, and read it until you memorized each page. It's worth your time and energy.
