Until recently, all I knew of Gordon Ramsay had to do with swearing and screaming. I mean, I knew that guy was supposed to be an amazing chef and all, but his rep focused more on the fire. Then I watched his other show, "Kitchen Nightmares." It showed me a guy who genuinely loves food and wants people to succeed, even when they serve crap from scary-dirty restaurants. He yells at times when it makes sense to yell, but has a big heart.

This show highlights the yelling, for sure. He lets fly in the kitchen, but that's because there are customers waiting, with evenings that will be spoiled if the crew isn't focused (or worse -- like the time he stopped some rancid crab from getting through). There's drama aplenty, and like contestant Bonnie, I've got kind of a crush on Gordon. The show has an interesting mix of players. I found myself rooting for the underdog Waffle House fry cook (how can you not). It's worth watching the series just to see how things turn out for the fine-dining rookie who started off not knowing what creme brulee was.

Some people yell for effect. Ramsay comes off as genuine, and his show kept me coming back for seconds, for thirds, and more. When I eat out, I look at my food with different eyes and evaluate my experience with an eye toward the "back of the house" (aka the kitchen). I have a newfound respect for the challenges involved in getting a table full of food out at the same time, tasting right, hot enough, etc. I can see how yelling comes into play. And I can see how some kitchens I've been to could use a Gordon of their own.

Unbox is missing episodes 7 and 9 for no particular reason. Are you kidding me? I also downloaded the latest episode of Heroes.. only to find it downloaded some episode of "Life" - I was charged for an episode I did not want. I still have not received the right episode of Heroes. I want my money back.
