Book Description

A drug-fueled trip through the gruesome levels of Hell may sound like a
fictional horror story to some, and since the traveler in question was
movie distributor Stephen Biro, it could just as easily have been one
of his film projects. But Stephen's experiences were the real,
life-changing sort. They're also proof that the Lord
does work in mysterious ways -- extending all the
way to squares of LSD and nitrous oxide cartridges.

Armed with psychedelics, hallucinogenics and a brave desire to meet God
no matter the personal cost, Stephen pushed beyond the boundaries of
safe drug use. He took the most nightmarish of trips from a cramped
one-bedroom apartment that he used for running his underground video
business. With initial difficulty finding God in his altered state,
Stephen instead encountered depravity and grotesquery enough to make
his soul weep, but he pushed on. And if that wasn't bad enough, his
Hellish experiences bled over into his waking days, and his friends and
acquaintances began identifying themselves to him as Antichrists,
deities and other assorted beings from "the other side." Reality was
blurring and shifting, and Stephen was run utterly ragged. Could he
fulfill his quest to learn universal truths before his extreme drug use
took its toll?

Hellucination: A Memoir spares no disturbing detail
of the unusual route that one man took to find Christ and the God of
the Bible. The memoir also follows younger Stephen through his 1970s
childhood and his bizarre early encounters with religion that drove him
to Atheism.

"An utterly surreal memoir. I'd say it was 'mindbending,' but HELLUCINATION doesn't just bend your mind, it twists it, stretches it, stabs it, and tosses it on the grill!" -- Jeff Strand, author of the upcoming book, "PRESSURE" and "WOLF HUNT" He's been nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in 2006, 2008, and 2010.

"HELLUCINATION takes the form of a page-turning memoir, combining personal trip reporting with science fiction, horror movie, and religious mythologies, philosophical speculation on the nature of the author’s experiments with psychedelic drug combinations, strange encounters with other people who may not be what they seem, and the rationale behind his spiritual conversion from atheism to Christianity." --David Jay Brown
Author of "Mavericks of the Mind" and "Conversations on the Edge of the Apocalypse"

“HELLUCINATION is a powerful read. In fact, it might distinctly appeal to fantasy readers, film lovers and lovers of fiction. Biro writes passionately with a purpose… you may end of ripping your eyes out afterwards though." -- Review, Horrornews.net

"HELLUCINATION" is unlike any book I've ever read before. While the memoir appears to cross over into the realms of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Psychological Thriller, it does not make any pretentious claim to be anything greater or lesser than what the author had intended. While often vile and repulsive, yet told with a flair of humor, Stephen Biro is brutally honest with his audience and with himself. When I finished reading the book and finally put it down, all I could do was sit in stunned silence for an untold amount of time. Hellucination is extremely powerful, and MUST be read to be fully appreciated! -- Paul J. Caputo

Mind-boggling and enthralling. The visualization techniques used is astounding. - Paul White - Producer of Bride of Re-Animator and Brian Yuzna's Society

I felt myself questioning my faith, or lack of faith, on religion, Jesus, God, the Devil, and what the purpose and point of my life and existence really was/is. I think that is the point of the book. The book raises awareness and makes readers think about the meaning of life and what their purpose is in it. That, in itself, is a pretty scary thing to think and ponder about. - Hellucination - Book review by www.shuizmz.com

Cinematic... it's going to scare the Hell out of some Christians. - Jim VanBebber - Director of The Manson Family and Deadbeat At Dawn

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I'm Stephen Biro, the Author of Hellucination. A couple of quick notes on my experience of finally finishing my memior. It took me a little over ten years to write this book. I studied all of the worlds religions and as much psychology as my mind could bear, trying to figure out what really happened to me. I didn't find much. Or I should say, I didn't find anyone that went thru what I did.

Due to the graphic nature of this book, I apologize ahead of time. It is not your normal conversion book. It is not the normal visitation you get from the Devil but it is the perfect meeting of God.

About the Author

Stephen Biro has worked in the film industry for over ten years, producing, distributing and even acting for fun. He opened his first comic book store in Tampa Florida and even opened a cult video store in Y-Bor City before the film industry dug it's claws into him. The written word has always fascinated Stephen, it was his first love and now he is doing it.

The imagination of the mind has always compelled him beyond the reality we live in and writing has always captivated him. No budget, no actors to deal with and specifically... no constraints of the imagination. He wrote Hellucination because it is what he experienced. It took him ten years to finish while trying to come to grips with it. God, the Devil... drug abuse and a journey to Hell is what he had to contend and try to live with, experiencing such horrors, revelations and understanding most people will never encounter in their lives. He had to share it and his memoir... is just that.

Stephen is working on his next book that is based upon his travels to the other side. The war between Heaven and Hell with humanity stuck, in the middle without ever knowing. Stephen Biro is an author to look out for in the future. Stay tuned for his next novel because he can finally unleash his imagination and not write in the confines of a memoir. Be prepared...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling, terrifying read January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
"Hellucination" is like nothing I've ever read before. A more cinematic memoir cannot be found; Biro's book mixes religion, philosophy, pop culture, hedonism and self-induced schizophrenia into a potent stew that builds and builds in intensity as it heads toward the inevitable climax. I could *not* stop reading! I read it over the course of one very fitful night - this book is scary! The ideas it presents will give you pause and the *extremely* visual way in which he - and we - come to the conclusions drawn, worm into your skull and stay there. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say this - read with caution ... the way you view the world may be irreparably changed by the time you are through. HIGHLY recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get it out of my head! July 7, 2012
By Phil T
Format:Paperback
I read this book while working a mid-night shift, thinking I would spread the reading over a few days, it didn't happen! It hooked me right from the beginning and I couldn't put it down, needless to say I didn't get anything done a work that night! Stephen paints some of the most vivid and disturbing pictures with his writing that i have ever had in my almost 40yrs of avid reading. I strongly recommend this book for those not afraid having to think about things most people want left alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read book... July 14, 2012
Format:Paperback
What can you say about Stephen Biro's Hellucination that has not been said? Fueled by drugs and on a mission to meet his maker Mr. Biro takes you hand in hand on a visual tour...a journey that transferred from dream, to reality and blurs the lines of what is real and what is wide awake and in your face at the same time. The only comparison I can even think of would be the feeling I got when viewing Jacob's Ladder but this is far more depraved, demented, spiritual, enlightening, it's just MORE! I cannot think of a way for this to be put into a visual without diving head first into the mind of Stephen Biro but if a picture could be painted of his memoir, his picture would speak volumes of words.

If you encounter people who you do not know in your nightmares, those people...when they sleep, they have nightmares like this book. It is a fantastic journey thru life and understanding, and even if you do not find yourself believing some of what you are reading you do find yourself being painted a picture that will stick with you for a very long to come. When reading this though the best thing I can say is enjoy your own journey while you are reading this memoir because you are along for the ride.

When I was a much younger person I read the Necronomicon and remember my heart racing as I turned each page..that was the feeling I got when I was about 1/2 way through this book...and from there on out it was words that were traveling through my bloodstream, to my heart, and directly to my mind. A very uncomfortable feeling in some ways for me personally because I am in "recovery" but a thrilling rush at the same time that I made it through this still sober. LOL

4.0 out of 5 stars Hell On Earth August 21, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My experience with this book was somewhat bittersweet. When I ordered it, I expected much more. This is not to say I was totally disappointed with it. Having witnessed and experienced supernatural events similar to the author, the conclusion was a bit of a let down for me. My opinion shouldn't deter you from reading this book, however. The journey itself is well worth the cover price. If you've any experience in exploring the unknown and have (by whatever means you've chosen) plumbed the depths of your consciousness, you may find yourself in familiar territory. There were quite a few deja vu moments for me while reading Hellucination, memories of things I had long forgotten. The awakening of those memories was what made reading this book fascinating as much as it was disturbing.

I recall the discomfort of family and friends when I described to them what the book was about, even before it had arrived in the mail. Initially, I had a time of reading it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to once I got it, apprehensive of how I would react. My review here is not very detailed, and for a reason. This is something that you will have to experience for yourself. Read a few of the various reviews here, and you will understand why. No, I don't mean the positive and negative reviews. Reading Hellucination is not unlike a Rorschach Test in that every reader will come away with something different, something that each reader may relate to in their lives. Perhaps I'm over thinking it, but I don't think so.

You've read the product description, you've read a review or three, I suggest you get the book. The journey is (quite literally) one hell of a ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Psychedelic Theology From The Depths of The Underground September 24, 2013
Format:Paperback
With Hellucination, author and film distributor Stephen Biro has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of the self-published underground. At once a memoir, novel, and interactive philosophical treatise, Hellucination pulls no punches. Working within the genres of horror, fantasy, and Christian apologetics, Stephen's psychedelic autobiography violently tears the reader between the peaks and valleys of Heaven and Hell, ecstasy and insanity.

The framework of the story follows Stephen as he recounts his life from the time of his early childhood to a hedonistic young adulthood and finally to his shattering knowledge and direct experience of God. Refreshingly nontraditional in terms of its narrative and its protagonist's spiritual methodology, Hellucination stands as one of the best surprises of 2012, heralding the arrival of a distinct and powerful new voice and perspective.
