4.0 out of 5 stars a modern psychological mythology story, January 19, 2011

(REAL NAME)
This was a required reading text for my mythology class a few years back; I never would have picked up this book otherwise and I'm really glad I did. This was an amazingly well done work, told entirely through internet chat-room like discourse - details of the world's surroundings and inhabitants is gained only through what the characters share with each other in a chat-room which is their only means of interaction/communication with the "outside" world and the others. They all seem to be prisoners in a strange labyrinthine world. There mythology story is loosely a Theseus and the Minotaur parallel, with "characters" who randomly interject themselves into conversations using such chatnames. And that's another strange aspect of the world - their usernames have some kind of connection to the people behind them, but appear to be both accurate and inaccurate.

An excellent read for those interested in a modernized mythology story and for those interested in psychology and the reactions of people in a very isolated world.

Highly recommended.
