5.0 out of 5 stars I'm an amateur chef and loved this book!, January 21, 2000

My cooking experience includes making boxed macaroni and cheese and toast. I received this book as a gift last year but just recently put it to use. Over the last month, I have worn it out! I am a vegetarian but also wanted to cook for friends who are meat-eaters. The book includes many receipes for everyone. The receipes are easy to understand and fun to read. Kevin and Nancy Mills have a fabulous sense of humor. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to start cooking but is intimidated and doesn't know where to begin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Your Cookbook Collection, December 29, 1999
This review is from: Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room: How to Have People Over for Dinner Without stressing Out (Paperback)
I received Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room Cookbook for Christmas this year. I am what they call a "Cookbook Junkie", but this is by far one of my favorites. I have only had this book for a couple of days, and I have not been able to put it down! I really enjoy the little anecdotes preceding several of the recipes. Also, the mom tips and warnings are tremendously helpful and great time-savers. The prologue to this cookbook is quite comical, and the tips for throwing a stress-free dinner party will definitely come in handy. My mom has already gone online and purchased Help! My Apartment Has A Kitchen Cookbook for me. I can't wait until it arrives!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for guests . . ., November 23, 1999
This review is from: Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room: How to Have People Over for Dinner Without stressing Out (Paperback)
This is a wonderful cookbook, even if you are not having people over for dinner! More than once I have simply halved a recipe to make a quick and tasty meal for two. The recipes use common ingredients and are simple and well-explained in an entertaining fashion.

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy and delicious!, March 19, 2006
This review is from: Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room: How to Have People Over for Dinner Without stressing Out (Paperback)
If you loved Help! My Apartment Has A Kitchen, you will love this sequel. The recipes are still easy, but are slightly more fancy. Many of them have good visual appeal which make them suitable for entertaining. (My fave are the chicken satays with peanut sauce!)

The cookbook also contains ideas and advice for entertaining guests and offers menu suggestions.

This book is great! Simple and easy to prepare meals. I bought this book for someone who didn't know how to cook and I kept it for myself. I like the simplicity of it.

This is a great cookbook for absolutely anyone. As a sleep-deprived pediatric resident with a husband who's a medical student, we often don't have time to cook, have a limited budget, but love trying new and different foods. This cookbook is perfect for us because there is a vast array of delicious international recipes guaranteed to tingle your taste buds, without a lot of effort on your part, in this easy to follow, extremely entertaining-to-read cookbook. If you're bored with your own cooking repertoire, here is a fantastic pick-me-up! Kevin and his mom have once again concocted a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple directions & many laughs are winning combo 4 novices., July 1, 1999

I'm not exactly a genius in the kitchen, so I need lots of step-by-step directions. This book and the Mills' first book, Help! My Apartment Has A Kitchen, have taught me a lot about how to cook, and sometimes I chuckle out loud when I read a recipe's intro. Help! My Apartment Has A Dining Room has lots of recipes to choose from, and they represent a wide variety of cuisines. It's very helpful that the recipes are rated as far as difficulty, "go with" recipes are suggested, and preparation and cooking times are given.

Both this and its predecessor are great for people who want to learn how to cook, and are fun to read, unlike most cookbooks.

This is an easy, helpful, funny guide, filled with great recipes, that make entertaining a breeze. This is a perfect companion to Help! My Apartment Has A Kitchen, another "must-have." The authors' chocolate recipe book, Chocolate on the Brain, is another great book, filled with simple, tasty recipes that chocolate-lovers will embrace. These are really useful books, in which every recipe is a winner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous cookbook!, July 23, 2009

This review is from: Help! My Apartment Has a Dining Room: How to Have People Over for Dinner Without stressing Out (Paperback)
I love this cookbook! I got it when I started graduate school 10 years ago, and I'm still using many of the recipes. When I first bought the cookbook, I was so clueless about cooking, so the explicit cooking tips, mom hints, etc., were perfect for me. Now, I struggle to find a Ratatouille recipe that is half as good as this one, or anything so delicious as the Mushroom Turnover. I do wish there were more "boneless chicken" recipes, but that's my only complaint.
