A must read for all new parents!,
This review is from: Help My Baby Came without Instructions (Paperback)
I bought this for a present and found myself reading it before I gift wrapped it. Sure wish this book had been around when my kids were babies. Great tips, and very easy to read! Can pick it up on the spot during a "crisis" and get immediate advise! Just right for those times when you don't want to bother the pediatrician, but could use some really good suggestions. Great for new mom's groups to use for discussions as well...hurry up with the sequel Blythe!!!

Just in the Nick of Time!,

I was out for the first time with a friend after having my little girl and I saw the book, "Help, My Baby Came Without Instructions." That's exactly what I was thinking at the time so I bought it. My friend was in town to help out with the baby for the weekend so while I took a much needed rest, she read a couple of the tips in the book. Viola, when I got up I did't hear crying and the baby was asleep in the crib... for the first time! The warm blanket comforted her and putting her in the corner of the crib instead of the middle was perfect. So many of Blythe's tips have helped us. I don't know where we'd be today without knowing these valuable bits of helpful information!

Blythe's Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Help My Baby Came without Instructions (Paperback)
I happened upon Blythe Lipman's "Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions!" while shopping for my niece, a first-time mom. It seemed the perfect gift. For safety's sake, I asked a couple of my pediatrician pals to peruse the book. They gave it "two thumbs up." "Blythe's advice is right on target," one of the physicians said. "These are the same things I say to my new mothers," the other reported. Not only was my niece pleased with her present, she is constantly telling me how helpful it is. Now I know exactly what to do when a similar occasion arises: Buy Blythe's book.

This book is a must-read for all new parents (and those contemplating new parenthood). It makes a great baby shower gift and is oh so practical! Now, if only Ms. Lipman would write the sequel, "Help, My Baby Parrot Came Without Instructions"!

Like an Emergency Baby Book,

I haven't found any other book like this for new parents. When our baby is crying or won't sleep or won't eat, all we want to do is get that problem solved. We don't have time to read a chapter, we just want someone to tell us what we should do right now! That's the beauty of this book for us -- we've got over 30 things to try that will stop Lucy from crying. Same with eating or sleeping, the Big 3 for us. This book has saved us so much frustration! And we get more sleep, too. Great book. I just hope there's another one by the time Lucy gets to be a toddler.

Wow! What a great book! I wish I had this for when my kids were growing up! It's a great collection of great ideas that you never think of that makes the first year of raising a new baby bearable. I've given a bunch of these away to friends and coworkers as baby shower gifts and baby's first birthday.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who is have a baby, thinking about having a baby, knows anyone who's having a baby, or ever has to care for a baby. It sure makes life easier for you and the baby! Thanks for the instructions!

Where was Blythe when I was a new mother? I purchased this book as a shower gift, but had to read it BEFORE I actually gave it. It is wonderful! The tips are written and organized for you --- have a screaming baby and not sure what to do? Turn to page 21-27 for a list of easy tips to try -- a book that you can read in a few hours but a tool to keep out during the baby's first year!! Help is on the way!

Cute but not the best book out there,
This review is from: Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions: How to Survive (and Enjoy) Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
In an effort to avoid making the same mistake that I made of buying a bunch of pregnancy books when I first found out I was pregnant and then barely even cracking the cover on most of them, I decided with the baby and parenting books I would just check a bunch out from the library and browse through to make sure it was something I would actually use before buying.
There were definitely things I liked about this book. First, it was short, to the point, and very easy to read. Basically it was a bunch of checklists of tips that you can try out in the event that your baby won't stop crying, won't go to sleep, etc. In a moment of need it would definitely make it easy to just grab this book, flip to the page you need, and get the information you're looking for. I also liked the tone - it was light and upbeat. The underlying message was that every baby and every parent is different, and there is no right or wrong. As long as you and your baby are happy, you are doing fine. I prefer this message to a lot of the books out there that try to shove their parenting style preference down your throat. The reason I gave this book only 3 stars is that I just felt that it wasn't really in depth enough to offer more than various other baby books out there. I am by no means experienced with infant care, and I felt like most of the things on the checklists were common sense. For those ideas I wouldn't have thought of on my own, I feel like I could get them from advice from others or a simple internet search. I would say that unless you have no idea what you are doing and not much of a support system, this book probably isn't necessary. Overall, it was a nice little book and I'm glad I read through it, but I'm also glad I checked it out from the library rather than buying a copy. |
