The Real Deal,
This review is from: Help the Cause in Afghanistan: 101 Ways to help the Afghan people and support our troops (Paperback)
Spirit of America is the real deal. This non-profit delivers to the troops with no red tape, and responds to the needs of corporals and captains. They are simply a terrific outfit. The book explains what and how they do it, with great examples of projects that touch the people directly. Bravo Zulu to Spirit of America.

Everyone Can Make a Difference,

This review is from: Help the Cause in Afghanistan: 101 Ways to help the Afghan people and support our troops (Paperback)
We hear about the war in Afghanistan on TV, but I think most of us feel we are too far away to make a real difference. After reading "Help the Cause" you will realize that is not true. It doesn't take much time or money to make a positive impact on the Afghan people and our troops who serve. The book has three sections: Help the Afghan People, Help those who Serve (includes veterans) and Get Involved. Each entry is a specific way you can help with explanations of where your money or time will be spent and how it makes a difference. Many of the entries also include touching letters or stories from people discussing the positive impact the program has made in their life. More than 65 nonprofit organizations' projects are included. My 9-year-old cousin saw my book over the holidays and decided to write a letter to thank our military. He then took the book to school and they are working on having the classroom adopt an Afghan child or US military unit so they can write letters and learn more about Afghanistan. I highly recommend "Help the Cause" for families, teachers, youth groups, and companies. For full disclosure, I did help with the creation of this book although I am not a part of the nonprofit (Spirit of America) that published it and I do NOT make any money from its sales. After learning about the amazing organizations in this book, I have personally dedicated some of my time and money to make a difference. I cannot give this project enough praise.

I read the excerpts that were available above, and it seems like a terrific compilation of all the projects covered on the SOA website in the past year. The book can be a great introduction to the work of this unique support group, it humanizes both the Afghan people and the American troops.
