I highly recommend this book!!

My thirty-four years as an educator has given me a wide range of experience as a classroom teacher, a reading specialist/clinician and an elementary school principal. Over the years, I read lots of educational research, professional books/articles on teaching strategies and techniques in addition to attending many educational seminars and conferences. I learned the crucial component in helping children become life long learners is developing their self-esteem so that they can accomplish tasks.

"I Can Do It" is an excellent book because it is filled with research-based strategies designed to help the child build a positive self-image and attitude about learning and facing challenges. This book contains practical suggestions for adults so they can learn positive ways to interact with children which is essential for helping them build and develop a "Can-Do" attitude.

Parents and Teachers, as well as Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, will benefit from reading this book. It is easy to read and follows a step-by-step approach for changing negative situations into positive ones, thus allowing the child to develop and use problem solving techniques that work. Success builds upon itself and children love to be successful. This book shows adults how to create successful solutions to those parenting problems that constantly arise while promoting the positive development of the child's self-esteem.

I recieved the book in the mail, and began reading it almost immediatley. As I read, the first thought that came to mind was a personal reflection. I have had to defeat my own experience of negative attitude from parents, educators, and spouse in my

early years of life. As I pursued my career goal, my positive attitude began. It was the encouagement from my mentors, and the support from friends, which provided me to feel the confidence I gained to reach my career goal as a nurse. As I realized the affect of "Can-Do" attitude on a personal basis, I have given this positive attitude to my wonderful 3 children. I would recommend "I Can Do It" to every parent/parent-to-be.

This is the kind of literature that all of us can relate to! Whether you are a parent, uncle, grandparent, or educator, the information in this text is realistic and practical. It is an easy-read that offers helpful suggestions in relating to children. As an educator, everyday I witness children who have negative attitudes toward learning and toward life. They work strictly for extrinsic rewards, thus the intrinsic value for their learning goes unnoticed and unchanged. This book offers alternative ways in helping children develop goals and a caring attitude for learning and life.

I highly recommend this book for two reasons: 1) it shows the reader what will actually work with children AND adults, as well as why it does work; and even more importantly, 2) the book so clearly spells out how to implement these techniques that I was able to immediately start practicing each concept as I read about them.
