Must have foundation book for Retail Loss Prevention Pro's.,
By A Customer
This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
I found this book to be an good source of information concerning the most basic mindset of the shoplifter. This book, in no way, gives an effective "method" for stealing, but rather explores the thinking and individual methodology of the average thief. No publication will instruct a person on the "Art of theft", but this book goes a long way in the exploration of the shoplifter's mindset. Understanding this, leads to career success. This book is a must-have for new Loss Prevention or Assets Protection personnel, and would make an excellent addition to the library of a rising LP Professional. I loaned it to my boss, a year ago, and haven't seen it since.

Waste of money,
By A Customer
This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
The book is a waste of money to all but the idiotic beginning shoplifter who wishes to be caught. The ideas of the fictitious Caime & Ghone (came and gone)are as simplistic and unoriginal as their names. Loss prevention agents can learn more and more accurate information in one month on the job than by wasting the cost of the book. Experienced thieves would find the information unhelpfull and potentially dangerous to their careers.

Splendid,
By A Customer
This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
A funny, entertaining and helpful book. Describes everything you need to know about everything one might ever want to steal. Particularly recommended to anybody ever caught, so it will never happen again. The chapter on EAS systems is by now a bit outdated, but that's the only (minor) drawback. Relevant homepages will make up for this drawback. Worth every (easily "recovered") penny it costs.

This is an outrageous but very entertaining book about the crazy antics of petty criminals. Never mind the shoplifting, read it for the laughs

This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
Provides a look at shoplifting from a shoplifter's perspective. Interesting anecdotes and description of methods. This book is worthwhile reading for both shoplifters and individuals responsible for security.

Incisive Social Satire Packs Clever Punch,
By A Customer
This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
Caime and Ghone's book has an honoured place next to my toilet. It never fails to elicit giggles, guffaws and knowing nods. Every social worker, cop, and public servant should own this book. It is a soothing balm for bruises caused by irrational, ultra conservative, right wing, fundamentalist extremists. And it is encouragement for thoughtful humanitarians.

Just have to say my boyfriend and I lift weights and when he got this off my list he thought it was a body builder book!!! lol
I have been doing LP work for over 19 years in a major department store and I can say I thought I had seen it all. I was wrong. My team is all reading this I think there is a lot of knowledge that can be gained by the incite of someone who has been there done that. Even if a lot of it is BS that only stores with no LP get hit with. Its worth a read and it Will make you laugh.

Shelf Help Guide is the end of civilization as we know it!,
By dan@danwagner.com (Detroit, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: S(h)elf Help Guide / The Smart Lifter's Handbook (Paperback)
What's next, a book titled How To Ax Murder Your Mother-In-Law? The Shelf Help Guide is to shoplifting what the Turner Diaries are to terrorism! That's why I refer to the book as the end of civilization as we know it. I wish I could write that I'm above the book and would never take advantage of the information it provides, but I could use some new designer duds, and... The only book that's a bigger threat to society is Getting To Howard: The Odyssey of an Obsessed Howard Stern Fan. Now that's a truly dangerous book, funny, too.

Sort of makes me want to shoplift. As I said it is interesting and a bit funny. It would come in handy for a store clerk to know how to prevent his or her store to be shoplifted.

This book is a valuable tool for loss prevention professionalseverywhere.Don't let the format or tone fool you because this book isbetter than any report about shoplifting written by any "expert" with a sociology degree who has probably never had to deal with a real thief.
