5.0 out of 5 stars It helped this harried homeschooler
This book is very well written. The organization is superb, the ideas fresh and practical and the humor engaging. I really like the author's writing style and the personal stories she shares. She covers a wide variety of topics and actually gets down into them, instead of mentioning that they exist and wishing you the best at figuring it out. I came away feeling like...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected....
There is nothing in the Amazon "book description" that suggests that this is a fundamentalist Christian book. Nothing wrong with a fundamentalist viewpoint...I just want to know ahead of time if I am buying a book that is as much about leading a Christian life as it is about homeschooling. I expected a book dealing with balancing my life as it pertains to homeschooling...

This book is very well written. The organization is superb, the ideas fresh and practical and the humor engaging. I really like the author's writing style and the personal stories she shares. She covers a wide variety of topics and actually gets down into them, instead of mentioning that they exist and wishing you the best at figuring it out. I came away feeling like a) I wasn't alone, b) I could do this because c) the book gave a lot of wonderful advice and how to apply it.

Several reviews mentioned that they didn't like the 'Christian' perspective. While not fundamentalist, I am Christian. I don't agree with some of the statements or expressions used, but I respect the author's right to write what she chooses. I felt in no way did the Christian statements detract from the book.

This book is a valuable resource. I have recommended it to other struggling, harried homeschoolers and will continue to do so because I feel it is one of the few homeschooling books I've read that really works.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME ADDITION TO HOMESCHOOL LIBRARY, October 3, 2002

"Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we fail not." GALATIONS 6:9, KJV

Being a mum is hard. So much multi-tasking is required. What if you add the responsibility of your children's education into the mix? It certainly makes for an interesting life. It doesn't have to be unattainable though. Christine Field has come up with a practical guide to leading a balanced life whilst providing the best education for your child.

This book would be great for both the experienced homeschooling parent and the novice Homeschooler. It gives wonderfully practical advice about keeping your sanity when things seem to be overwhelming, how to avoid burnout, and brings it all back to what God says in his Word. I loved what she had to say about making a mission plan and that homeschooling could be even considered a "calling". WOW!

This book has made me feel better about our decision to homeschool our children. It would be a great addition to any homeschoolers bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars small house but made room, July 3, 2002
This review is from: Help for the Harried Homeschooler: A Practical Guide to Balancing Your Child's Education with the Rest of Your Life (Paperback)
I live in a very small house with large boys, and this one is worth keeping on the shelf-- leans toward Conservative Christianity, but as a liberal Christian, found it tolerable-- worthy buy -- even as a new book!

There is nothing in the Amazon "book description" that suggests that this is a fundamentalist Christian book. Nothing wrong with a fundamentalist viewpoint...I just want to know ahead of time if I am buying a book that is as much about leading a Christian life as it is about homeschooling. I expected a book dealing with balancing my life as it pertains to homeschooling versus a book that covers balancing my life solely from a spiritual perspective. For some people, homeschooling and spirituality aren't the exact same thing. The description and title of the book could have been more forthcoming.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I've read, December 31, 2003
This review is from: Help for the Harried Homeschooler: A Practical Guide to Balancing Your Child's Education with the Rest of Your Life (Paperback)
This book is indeed from a Christian viewpoint, and it literally touched me on a soul level. I found myself laughing at times, and close to being choked up at times as well. Christine is a brilliant writer with a touching wit. I received this book as a gift two days ago, and have honestly not been able to put it down. I finished it this morning and am grateful for the insights it provided me. I highly recommend this book!

Life as a homeschooling mother, while blessed, can be hectic at times. Do you want to know the "cure"...the true solution...the easy solution???? Read Mrs. Field's book! The answer is simple and, while she doesn't give the answer in one bold sentence on page ??, you will find the answer in your heart upon completion of the book. This book is literally filled with scriptures from the Holy Bible. Those scriptures are related to homeschooling in a way that brings tears to the eyes, joy to the heart, and peace to the soul. This book will grace my library shelves for years to come and will be referred to often. I highly recommend this book to any and all.

4.0 out of 5 stars great advice esp. for parents with young children, April 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Help for the Harried Homeschooler: A Practical Guide to Balancing Your Child's Education with the Rest of Your Life (Paperback)
This book gave me the encouragement I needed plus some helpful advice. I loved her book "A Field Guide to Homeschooling" and this book is a great addition to the collection. Alot of common sense that doesn't seem so common to moms when they are in the middle of the situation.

I especially loved her advice about how to manage teaching multi-age children and about how to manage homeschooling with a toddler in the house. I put down the book and made my own "Danny-Do" cards for my toddler the first day. It has made a difference in our household.

Thanks again, Christine, for the encouragement.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you're thinking about homeschooling..., January 8, 2009
By
This review is from: Help for the Harried Homeschooler: A Practical Guide to Balancing Your Child's Education with the Rest of Your Life (Paperback)
Read this book! The first portion of this book is really about what needs to be in place in your home to homeschool--like taking care of your home, having discipline, love, and respect in your home, and being on the same page with your husband. I lent this book to a friend who was thinking about homeschooling, but she appreciated the author's encouragement not to push it if your husband isn't on board with homeschooling. Homeschooling really requires everyone in the family to be on board! The remainder of the book is great because it gives encouraging strategies about how to cope with a lot of the challenges of homeschooling. As a Christian mom of 3, I love this book and it was just what I needed when I read it!
