Book Description

January 2007
Johnny and Luke loved being in Miss Bardin's third-grade class -- especially at Christmas time, when the class put on its annual pageant, complete with a nativity scene and even an obliging donkey! But when Senator Weary, Al Snore, Congresswoman Clunkton and the whole 9th Circuit court show up demanding an end to the fun and festivities in the name of diversity, global warming, and stinky French cheese, all is almost lost until Johnny, Luke and an unexpected hero armed with a mysterious piece of paper unite to save Christmas.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

The kids' series that Hillary hates is back!

Katharine DeBrecht and illustrator Jim Hummel, the team that brought you the first two "Help! Mom!" books -- There are Liberals Under My Bed! and Hollywood's in My Hamper! -- return with their funniest, most outrageous adventure yet.

Like every "Help! Mom!" book, The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity has something for kids and parents alike. Young readers will love following along with the lively story and full-color pictures while singing the ridiculous (but very politically correct) new lyrics for The First Noel:

The First Toenail, the Liberals did say Was that the harder people work The more taxes they pay

Parents will enjoy the cartoon antics of prominent politicians doing what they do best -- minding everyone else's business. And just like every "Help! Mom!" book, The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity! should also prove popular with adults looking to laugh at the endless foibles of liberals.

Can busybody Congresswoman Clunkton take the "ho ho ho" out of the holidays? Not with Mom on the case! Join gifted storyteller Katharine DeBrecht and award-winning illustrator Jim Hummel as they share another small lesson in conservatism.

And you won't want to miss "Officer Betty" taking Hillary -- oops, Clunkton -- to detention over certain third-grade bake sale irregularities! "Detention Officer Betty" is the caricature of a real person, who bid to participate in the fun via a well-publicized eBay auction that raised over $3,000 for Operation Gratitude. OpGrad is a non-profit that sends care packages to American soldiers and sailors overseas. Kids Ahead is proud to support this great cause.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny . . ., June 21, 2007
This review is from: Help! Mom! The 9th Circuit Nabbed the Nativity (Help! Mom!) (Hardcover)
. . . third entry into the popular "Help! Mom!" series takes a look at the "War on Christmas".

Funnier than the second entry, this "Help! Mom!" book recounts the tale of how the "Liberaland 9th Circuit Court" attacks Christmas (and, for that matter, Judaism as well) without due regard for that precious piece of paper, the United States Constitution.

Unlike the previous two "Help! Mom!" books which take satire into the realm of parody, many elements of "The 9th Circuit Court" recount actions and episodes which have actually occurred in schools and courts throughout this country. The fundamental underlying principle which the Secular Progressives seem to miss is that the Constitution provides for "Freedom OF Religion" NOT "Freedom FROM Religion". That distinction is made very clear in this book.

As an aside, the tone of many of the reviews for both this book and its two predecessors (to say nothing of the tenor of many of the follow-up comments) makes me want to suggest a follow-up title, to wit: "Help! Mom! The Secular Progressives Have No Sense Of Humor!"

Very highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, with brilliant illustrations, December 13, 2006

I thought "Liberals Under My Bed" was a riot, and I enjoyed "9th Circuit" too. The fact that liberals (some of them posting here) are up in arms about this book shows how on-target it is. The book makes fun of Hillary Clinton, Jon Carry and Al Gore in ways that show exactly how superficial and self-serving their "beliefs" are. Anyone who likes to laugh at politicians - and who can laugh at themselves - will enjoy this book. There's a funny video on YouTube called "The First Toenail" that's from this book that is highly recommended too.

This book provides one tiny opportunity to try and balance the overwhelming blitz of liberal media distortions and control of the developing minds of little kids. I'm writing this one day after the Sunday Funnies in the Washington Post published 2 blatantly anti-religion strips, 1 hostile pro-immigration strip, and an anti-heartland (red State) strip in addition to the usual assortment of anti-Bush strips (Doonesbury, Boondocks, etc). Kids need to read books like this and its 2 predecessors in order to learn how biased the media and education system has become.
