About the Author

Elissa P. Benedek, M.D., is a leading child psychiatrist and forensic expert. She is Director of Research and Training at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and Wayne State University. Dr. Benedek is the author of numerous scientific publications on child custody, the effects of divorce on children, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment. Having held some of the most prestigious leadership positions in her profession, including a term as only the second woman president of the American Psychiatric Association in its 151-year history, Dr. Benedek has worked tirelessly for many years to address the mental health needs of American children and make these needs known to policymakers and legislators. Catherine F. Brown, M.Ed., has worked for Psychiatric News, the newspaper of the American Psychiatric Association, since 1982.
