From Library Journal
This is a revision and update of the 1983 title Top Tips from Consumer Reports: How To Do Things Better, Faster, Cheaper . The updated information has been reviewed by specialists from the Consumers Union, and the topics are culled from recent past issues of Consumer Reports . This is not a purchasing guide with product reviews; its purpose is to provide accurate, short, concise entries on how to shop for appliances; health and beauty products; electronic equipment; food; credit and other aspects of financial planning; automobiles and car care items; and home and gardening tools. Included are a few bibliographic references, a half-dozen recipes, names and addresses of U.S. government agencies and national organizations , and some 800 telephone numbers. Insights on health, diet, and household maintenance are also provided. This alphabetically arranged handbook is highly recommended for libraries serving consumers and those subscribing to Consumer Reports .
