I purchased this card to add USB 3.0 connectivity to my HP XW4300 Workstation, which dates from before the days of USB 3.0. The XW4300 is an an extremely robust and expandable platform (it's built like the proverbial tank), having not only a longish PCI Express 16x slot (typically occupied by a graphics card) and a short PCI Express 1x slot, but also a medium-length PCI Express 4x/8x slot, something not seen on most consumer-grade PCs these days. I initially installed this card in the 1x slot, but after doing some thinking, realized that I'd be better off installing it in the 4x/8x slot if I wanted to get the maximum performance out of it. The 16x slot has a graphics card in it.

I noted that the card was very hard to insert into the slot - so hard, in fact, that I worried a bit that I might be harming my motherboard - and it was equally hard to remove when I decided to move it from one slot to the other. I should mention that I've reconfigured computers more times than I can count, so I know exactly how much force is normally required to insert or remove a card of this type. However, the card did ultimately seat properly.

After installation, I ran the driver utility on the included mini-CD and it installed with no issues. The CD includes drivers for other products sold by the same vendor so obviously you'll want to select the correct driver. The computer recognized the new device immediately and I was able to plug in an external hard drive and start using it right away. I have not conducted any formal speed tests but my impression is that it is very fast. I'm sure a brand-new computer running USB 3.0 natively from the motherboard would be faster still, but my objective here was to add some utility to my existing computer without spending a fortune, and I think I succeeded.

Put in the card and turn on the computer with Windows 7 64 bit. Let it do the rest. Super easy. Also, connected to my front header exactly like it was supposed to.

Fast and easy way to upgrade older motherboard to USB3.0 and, with the 19 pin header, have ports at both ends of the computer case.
