Despite the claim in the online description that this book "teaches the reader how to lace and tie a shoe" it does nothing of the sort. The book is nothing more than one of those lace books where you make patterns that form things like a broom and a bow and arrow by running a long cord through sets of holes. The last lace up picture is of a shoe, but there is no similarity between that picture and lacing an actual shoe.

My son waited over two weeks for this book (my fault for the delay, not Amazon's) and was completely frustrated looking for the part that taught him how to tie shoes. After looking it over, I realized that the book included absolutely no instructions on how to tie or lace a shoe. I opened to the last page, ran the included lace through two holes at random, and taught my son to tie his shoes with no help at all from the book. The only useful feature was that it came with an extra long and thicker than normal shoelace that was a good match for the size of my son's hands. However, the laces in my own sneakers are about the same size, so I didn't even need that.

In my opinion, this book is misrepresented and totally useless for teaching children to tie shoes. There are no shoe tying instructions at all, good or bad. I would recommend against buying this book unless you simply like lace up board books.
