About the Author
Asa R. Sphar III, Ph.D. currently serves as Professor of Psychology and Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and as their Director of Clinical Training for their counseling programs. In addition, he is Director of Counseling Services of New Orleans, a private outpatient counseling center serving six separate locations in the New Orleans area. He holds the following degrees: Master of Divinity (M.Div.) in Psychology and Counseling, Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFC), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology and Counseling. At the completion of his graduate studies he received the Outstanding Student Award and the Broadman Seminarian Award for his graduating class. His other credentials, memberships, and recognitions include the following: Licensed Professional Counselor; National Certified Counselor; Approved Supervisor/Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT); Charter Member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC); Clinical Member of the Fellowship of Christian Counselors and Therapists (FCCT); Certified Pastoral Counselor Educator (CPCE); and a Member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). Dr. Sphar and his wife Donna will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year. They have two daughters, ages 17 and 21.
Argile Smith, Ph.D., is also on the faculty at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Presently he serves as Professor of Preaching, occupying the J. D. Grey Chair of Preaching and the Chair of the Division of Pastoral Ministries. Prior to joining the faculty, he was the pastor of Trinity Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Having been involved in pastoral ministry since 1977, he currently serves as bi-vocational pastor of Faith Baptist Church in New Orleans. He has published a variety of articles on topics related to pastoral ministry and preaching as well as a number of Bible study guides. He holds the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. He is a member of the Evangelical Homiletics Society. He and his wife, Connie, have been married for twenty-seven years, and they have three sons, ages 16, 20, and 22.
