4.0 out of 5 stars Vehemence- Helping the World See, July 24, 2004
This review is from: Helping the World to See (Audio CD)
4.5 Stars
Vehemence's Helping the World See is one of those albums with absolutely impeccable timing. With the original innovators of the melodic death subgenre (In Flames, Dark Tranquility) straying from death metal altogether, Vehemence comes along and proves that you don't have to sacrifice speed, agression, and brutality to incorporate melody into death metal.

The production on this album is quite guitar heavy, with the bass relatively inaudible and the drums less prominent than on most death metal releases. However, after listening to the album a few times, I don't think this is a problem. While the drumming is tight and fast most of the time, the guitars are what really shine on this album. Guitarists Dannov and Chavez play some great riffs and leads on this album, creating songs with plenty of melody and aggression.

Now on to the vocals. Some people are just not ever going to like death metal vocals, and if you're on of those people you're going to hate them on this album. Nathan Gearhart growls like he's posessed by the devil himself, while bassist Mark Kozuback provides some blood curtling screams to keep it interesting. It's a highly effective twin vocal attack that avoids the monotony of some death metal albums.

I can't really think of many problems with this album. If you're looking for drums in the forefront, you may be a little dissapointed in the production. Some death metal fans are inevitably going to say that this isn't brutal enough, and some will not be able to get past what they see as excessive brutality. But all things considered, this is a great example of some talented musicians who remain heavy yet manage to slip melody in there as well. A great album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album but can't quite match up to "god was created", April 10, 2004

Helping the world to see is another great album from the band Vehemence. The songs are all well structured and stick in your head. The guitar playing is unbelievable, the drums are amazing, and the dual vocals are insane. Now, if you liked the cd before this one (God was created)then definately buy this one. In my personal opinion i think God was created was better. Thats their album. I dont think any album they make will ever compare to that one, but helping the world to see is still an amazing album!
Stand out tracks on the album: 1,2,3,4,5,9 and 10
track 10 definately should have been longer than 3 minutes, they could have turned that into an epic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, July 27, 2005
This review is from: Helping the World to See (Audio CD)
The boys from Arizona are back with a new full length and this is the best yet from these guys. Although this came out in 2004 and I just bought it recently in june 2005 yet it still rules. I don't think that this is the dreaded "sophomore slump" at all. This is how modern metal anno 2004-05 should sound. Brutal and complex yet full of simple, yet not overpowering melody. While a lot of bands these days are using melody and inadvertently sacrificing their brutality and selling out, This band uses melody to add a dimension to their brutal sound, which bands should try to do more often. The album itself is basically flawlessly executed from start to finish. The drums are clear yet the guitars are thick. The lyrics are much more thought out and deeper in terms of meaning. All in all, this is thus far the defining record of this young bands career.
