Fun but not her best
on July 6, 2011
This is another in Hemalayaa's series of Bollywood-style dance workouts. It's divided into a warm-up and cool down, each 5 minutes, and two 20 minute dance workouts. The first one, Wedding Party, is the easier of the two. Depending on your level of fitness, it might be too easy. The Bollywood moves in both are fun and not really difficult from a choreography standpoint. Unlike her earlier videos, she cues "live" and not via voice-over and as a result I do think the cuing is better. Hemalayaa tries to pair the moves with motivational thinking ("Shake your finger here at all your negative thoughts") which didn't really work for me because my heart rate wasn't high enough to have that giddy kind of "I can do it!" frame of mind but to each his own. The set would be borderline cheesy in other circumstances but it's perfect for a workout video as it helped hold my interest. There are some mildly high impact moves but they are easy to modify. There's also a chest pump move that she does a lot that made me a little sick to my stomach.
I have several of the Hemalayaa workouts now and the best one I've tried thus far is Bollywood Dance Workout and I'd recommend it over Bollywood Party Workout-or that you try it if if you liked but weren't totally sold on this one. Bollywood Dance is a more well-rounded workout and includes a separate abs segment and two background dancers. The only ab work here you'll be getting from the standing dance moves (including the kind of dreaded chest pump move I mentioned.) I liked this but I was a little bored at times so I don't know how often I'll really use it. Hemalayaa as always is very sweet and graceful.
