Book Description

Sometimes dreams can be enlightening but for Jessica they are a constant torment, for she grieves the loss of her father. Her stepmother has shipped her off to Blakesby, a boarding school for the elite, where Jessica’s only friend is her peppy roommate Karrie.
Mid-Semester mysterious cousins Daniel and Sebastian arrive shaking up Jessica’s moody existence. Daniel is smart, sexy, and absolutely infuriating; while Sebastian is fun and flirtatious. But Jessica has no time to dwell on why these two have transferred to her school and seem to seek out her friendship…she’s got a much bigger problem. Karrie has disappeared. Now Jessica must enlist Daniel and Sebastian’s help and go on a journey that will ultimately uncover the secrets of her own past; throwing her into a world where mythical creatures become reality…
“You may think you’re ready to accept the impossible, until it stares you right in the face.” - Jessica (From Hematite)

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down! March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Normally I'm not in to books for young adults, however I couldn't put this one down. The book was recommended to me and the price was reasonable so I downloaded to my kindle. The book starts with our heroine Jessica at Blakesby boarding school dealing with the usual high school drama, plus some personal tragedy. Before long you are sucked in by the addition of brothers Sebastien and Daniel, who happen to be very sexy (added bonus) and lots of suspenseful twists. I started the book pretty late one evening and although I was tired, I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened next. I encourage anyone to read this book even if your like me and not into young adult. I think this book would make a great CW series or maybe movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing and beautiful book February 26, 2013
By elena
Format:Kindle Edition
I am not a very frequent reader of fiction books. Due to work and school demands, I mostly read reference and scientific materials. I came across Hematite by Stefanie Olar and decided to give the book a try. I thought I would read a few pages and see how it goes. Well, I have to say I finished the book pretty quickly because it is THAT captivating and I could not put it down. The best part about the book are the characters. They are easy to relate to and appear to be regular people. I really enjoyed the fact that their emotions and thoughts are described in depth. I felt like I was reading the main character's mind because I could almost hear her thoughts. After few pages, I felt I got to know the main character on a personal level. It was a great feeling and the kind of feeling I rarely have while reading a book. Just as soon as I got comfortable knowing that the girl in the book was going to be ok, something unexpected and unpredictable happened. This was another amazing aspect about Hematite: unpredictability and suspense. I can usually tell where the story is going but not in this case. There are plenty of unexpected twists and turns and once I came across them, I could not stop reading and read all the way into the early hours of the morning instead of sleeping. Since this is a series, I suspect a second book is coming and I really cannot wait to read it and find out what happens next. I could sense a great deal of kindness and care that the author put into writing this book. The book has a soul of its own and you will not regret if you read it. Thank you Stafanie for this amazing and beautiful book. I look forward to more books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Debut June 1, 2012
By durkm
Format:Kindle Edition
Hematite is a fast paced page turner from beginning to end. First time novelist Stefanie Olar delivers an intriguing debut and great start to the Sacred Stone Series. It will leave you wanting for more. One of my biggest beefs with fiction written for young adults involves weak female leads. The female protagonists are often too powerless, too whiney, and seem annoyingly in need of far too much direction from the men in their lives. Hematite's Jessica is a refreshing change from all that. While she is continuously thrown in to new environments and situations beyond her control she maintains a strong mindset, a take charge assertiveness, and full control over which course of action she should take at all times. I eagerly await the next book in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good effort - keep it up! December 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
'Hematite' offers a very good storyline...the author shows a deft hand at building suspense, as well as the juxtaposition of using humor and down-to-earth characters within a complex fantasy world. This is what kept me reading, in spite of -- to be quite honest -- numerous distractions caused by weakness of grammatical structure. Notably: multiple instances where poor use of senence structure, punctation and idiom caused confusion as to the meaning of sentences. Ms. Ofar has a talent for storytelling, and I hope that she is able to use the success of this first book in the series to invest in a good proofreader for successive installments. I really am interested to see where she goes with this story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!!! August 11, 2012

I must say as an avid adult reader I seldom give a book 5 stars. It was so nice to read a kindle ebook with no editing problems...if you read a lot of kindle ebooks you understand what I am saying. I truly enjoyed this book and the characters. It was quite pleasant to not be distracted by errors every other sentence. Thank you to the editor of this book...bless you!!! I would definitely recommend this book. It was interesting and kept my attention and I finished it in a day.

books duh
I am always a bit skeptical when there are many glowing reviews that in total say essentially nothing.
Having bought a few with this characteristic, the right move is to download the sample before buying.
