Hemp Masters - Getting Knotty: More Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting Hip Hemp Jewelryis a "new" book by Max Lunger. The instructions are great, the drawings and photos are also excellent.

But for anyone who had bought Hemp Masters: Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting Hip Hemp Jewelryand was looking for new knots beyond the basic, this is not the book for you as the first half of Hemp Masters-getting knotty has the exact same instructions, pictures etc from the original Hemp Masters book, word for word, page for page for 32 pages.

The first 14 new projects are just dandified versions of the ones from book One.

-Heavey Colored Switch Necklace: same pattern from book one but one colored cord is added so you have a dual colored choker.
-Proper Purple Chocker: Same choker from book one, colored hemp added.

So you get the idea.

The last nine patterns are pretty cool and very patriotic. The USA Strong Arm Band, The USA Mirror Charm, Sprit of America Flag and the Lacy USA Bracelet are neat. The other patters are just different bracelet and choker designs w/o the Stars and Stripes.

Pros:
-9 new patterns
-showing you how to add color if you don't know how
-great photos
-nice instructions
-great starter book if you're looking for a knot guide

Cons:
-no new knots, same as first book
-no new patterns(unless you count adding the colored cord)
-not great for experienced knotters unless you want to pay $10 for a few innovative patterns, but once you see the pic you'd know how to do them.

Don't get me wrong I think Max does great work but I think it's a little misleading as advertised as "More" Ancient Hippie secrets. And the actual book, if you look at the cover on the .pdf you'll see that the actual title is: Hemp Masters Getting Knotty: Ancient Hippie Secrets for Knotting hip Hemp Jewelry. My point being Amazon advertized this as "more ancient hippie secrets" when that is actually not the title. And truely you're not getting more, just more of the same(with color cords).

This was my first knotting book and I found it very easy to understand. It also explains how to begin and end in very clean ways that other books don't usually show you. Also shows you how to add filler or knotter cords when they start to get short. I particularly enjoyed the phishbone pattern. Very pretty and easy to do projects that look alot more complicated. There's lots of techniques here that you can use and expand on. The writting is not dry like a usual instruction book either. It's personable and fun!

I've been making hemp jewelry for quite a while and i've been looking for new styles to get into, so i bought this book hoping to learn some awesome new braids and it definitley taught me just that! If anyone is looking for a hemp jewelry book in order to learn new styles in making them, this is definitley the book to get. It's perfect.

This book is great. Perfect step by step instructions for beginners and it's even more perfect if you use it with the first Hemp Masters book because the first however many pages of each book are the same, the part that tells you all the knots, so if you're looking at the instructions for one thing and need to look up a certain knot then you can get out the other book to look it up without losing the page your project is on. I love it, I love them both.

I make hemp jewelry and sell my pieces at arts 'n craft shows about 4 times a year. This is one of the first books I purchased for ideas and inspiration. It has a lot of different projects and a fun read. Whenever I have a customer that shows an interest in learning more about hemp jewelry making I recommend this book!

So I'm an absolute beginner to making hemp jewelry and purchased this book, as it was a top recommendation at several different sites. Overall, it's been very helpful in understanding the basics. However, it lacks a little in explanation. Several kinds of knots are explored in this book, but they are hard to follow as there isn't much for step-by-step instructions/diagrams on how to perform them. A lot more space seems to be spent on projects, which are nice, but leaves me a little confused as I'm lost fumbling around with how to make the knots correctly.

Overall, a good buy, but definitely caters to those who have some experience already. Regardless, I would still recommend it, as it has a lot of great ideas that are a little out of the norm (i.e, several variations on how to begin/finish a piece, etc.).

I bought this book for my 14 year-old daughter so she could learn to make hemp jewelry for a trip to Costa Rica-the instructions were easy to follow and she made several pieces the first day she had the book. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning this craft. She left it with the family she stayed with so I will be getting another copy to replace it!

This book was very useful. It took me from knowing nothing about hemp knotting, and taught me how to create necklaces, anklets, and more! This book also explains how to add colored hemp to the creations you are making. The directions for the projects are all spelled out with pictures to help you along. I heartily recommend this book to beginners!

This book is great for jewelery makers who already have an idea of what they're doing.
It comes with great pictures and semi easy instructions. But it would definitely be hard to understand if you've never made hemp jewelry before.
But other than that its a great book, for a good price :).

I love this book! Not only are there many very good patterns but a history on hemp and hemp products. I believe the history on hemp should be mandatory reading for everyone!
