5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom should be NORML but..
I rate this 5 on two main reasons: the altruism and the music. The first is an obvious one, raise funds for Norml, it is not ok that people serve prison times for just a joint. The second one is less obvious because you have to listen to it and will find one of the best compilations ever. Most of the tunes are covers: Black Crowes doing Bob Dylan's "Rainy Days Women...

3.0 out of 5 stars They've got the herb.
311 and other quality groups sing about their very favorite thing. I think you can guess what it is.

I rate this 5 on two main reasons: the altruism and the music. The first is an obvious one, raise funds for Norml, it is not ok that people serve prison times for just a joint. The second one is less obvious because you have to listen to it and will find one of the best compilations ever. Most of the tunes are covers: Black Crowes doing Bob Dylan's "Rainy Days Women #12&35" sound even better than the Blonde on Blonde original version. Check Blues Traveler doing Sly Stone's "I wanna take you higher" great harmonica blowing will take you as high as the Woodstock version. Enjoyed a lot the Widespread Panic version of Van Morrison's "An it Stoned Me", Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" by Sacred Reich (woulda been better with a stronger initial cough) and so.The rest of the album is "high" level music, 311, Cypress Hill, Gov't Mule. Definitely a must, and if this item appears out of stock here, look for it on another on line store or get it second hand.

Very bold venture in Music, most songs are good but, there are a few that really get the message across. Govt. Mule, Ian Moore to name just two... This is strictly for Mature Listeners of all ages!!!!!! The uses for HEMP, like clothing, soaps, medicines, are as valid as any other!!! PLEASE,take all sides first into concideration...I LIKE THIS CD.....

# 4 was the best but you need to lower the background music so you can hear the songs better.

.
I've had an easier time sifting thru gate-fold record albums looking for a bong hit than I did finding smokin' tunes on this weak set.
.
Aside from trusty IAN MOORE, who honours MUDDY WATERS with the Old Tradion-meets-New Tradition Blues of "CHAMPAGNE & REEFER", there weren't many buzzworthy cuts on this pro-canibus compilation.
.
Besides, EZ Wider breath, simply contributing a song with the word "HIGH" or "SMOKE" in the title shouldn't constitute reefer madness.
.
With fairly big name "on-the-record" grass-acts on board such as BLACK CROWES, GOVERNMENT MULE, BLUES TRAVELER, honorary Allman Brother WARREN HAYNES, DRIVIN' & CRYIN', WIDE SPREAD PANIC and SCREAMIN' CHEETAH WHEELIES, a good time should have been had by all, but none of this really set my soul on fire.
.
Many of the bands -known or unknown- try to take on FM Staples such as "AND IT STONED ME" and "HIGH TIME WE MET". "SWEET LEAF" sounds like karaoke Sabbath so what's the point of taking on the master of reality. It's like trying and scrape ressin off the pipe the morning after? Tastes bad.
.
A few moments light up such as the reggae anthem "LEGALIZE IT". Here SUBLIME do not steer far off the Jamaican Roadside in feting legendary ganja unicyclist, Peter Tosh. But it works.
.
Other than that, it's mostly stems & seeds that you don't need. Fool's Gold is bad indeed. Bottom line, if this CD were bought weed, I'd have felt like I'd been ripped off.
.
Dave's not home, man....
.

One Reason to get this CD: The 311 cover of Who's Got The Herb. This song has become a mdoern classic amongst friends of marijuana. Who doesn't know the lyrics to this classic 420 song? Buy it, put on 311, and hit repeat and listen to the song that will define them 20 years after they are gone. An insta-classic

5.0 out of 5 stars this is a mix of artists with one thing in common "HERB", July 19, 1999
By A Customer
THIS COMPILATION ROCKS BECAUSE 311 IS ON IT. WHOS GOT THE HERB IS A ROCKIN SONG AND THE ONLY NON-LIVE VERSION OF IT IS AVAILABLE ON THIS COMPILATION. THE CYPRESS HILL SONG IS GOOD AND CHEEBA CHEEBA IS JUST PLAIN HALARIOUS I RECOMEND IT TO ANY 311 FAN.

This has to be one of the best CD's in the world 4 when u wanna get high! it has cypress 'i wanna get high' live!! that alone makes this CD brilliant!! but every other song on the album is brilliant also!! when u have your mates over and u wanna smoke this is the absolute s**t!! no really it is! im not just a big stoner! believe me! you like to get high? u like really good music? then you buy this album! pretty simple! help out NORML! f**k the crappy american government! it all started from them making up crap! they spend billions fighting marijuana, especially america! why? legalise it! lose the black market, save billions, which could be used for something worth while! like education! it doesn't lead to stronger drugs! all they have on that is that people who take stronger drugs also smoke marijuana!? ofcourse they do! it gets you high! and isn't dangerous! that doesn't mean it lead to their big drug addiction! fight for legalisation! if you dont agree and have a good arguement for why it shouldn't be legalised all around the world then e-mail me at: monkey_boy@bongmail.com! thank you! woo!
