3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre hip-hop, February 6, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hempstead High (Audio CD)
After the enormous air-play that "Enjoy Yourself" got, this album was sure to end up in a few shelves. Unfortunetly, for all the people suckered into buying this CD, this album holds nothing fresh, and even worse than that: the same-old, same-old is mind-numbing. The producing by Kedar Massenberg is pure garbage. I'd call the music bad R&B, rather than hip-hop. The beats are more often off, than on. Not to say, that A+ doesn't have talent. He can rhyme, but he needed somekind of guidance rather than making a run for the money. With a good producer, this kid could've rocked big time. Too bad it went down like that. Although, check out the song with Canibus, "Boyz To Men", it's a positive exception on the album. Download it, do not spend your money on this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, But Nothing Memorable (3 Stars), February 9, 2005
This review is from: Hempstead High (Audio CD)
When I first heard this album, I had no idea that A+ was only 16 years old when it came out. When I found out, I went back and gave it another spin. After giving it a second chance (something that I rarely do), I came to the conclusion that it's not that bad when you take into consideration that this is a juvenile that's doing all the rapping. If you look at it from that perspective, then it isn't so bad. Not everyone can be a teenage prodigy like Nas (he was only 18 or 19 when he spit on "Live At The BBQ"). But there have been better teenage rap acts out there. So how hot this album is all depends on your point of view. There are some tight songs on here like "Watcha Weigh Me" feat. MJG and "Boyz 2 Men" feat. Lost Boyz and Canibus. The highlight of the entire album comes on this song when Canibus spits a few bars. I'd have to say that "Staggering And Stuttering" feat. Psycho Drama is pretty decent too.

The rest of the album is very boring. Most of the beats sound the same and none of them stand out from each other. "Price Of Fame" and "Understand The Game" are okay, but I wouldn't reccomend listening to them while operating heavy machinery. I found myself getting sleepy while trying to get to the end of the album. And I have to say that tracks like "Don't Make Me Wait", "Parkside Gardens", "What The Deal", and the "The Score" interlude are booty.

This is one of those albums that might have a nice single on the radio for about a month and then you'll completely forget about it afterward. There's nothing on this album that seperates A+ from the rest of the pack or make you want to remember who he is. I can't say that I'd give it a high reccomendation. But if you want to buy this, just know that you won't be sorry you bought it, but you won't be all that thrilled about it either. Whether you like this album or not depends on your point of view. My personal opinion is that A+ has skills, but he could use a lot of polish and less sleep inducing production.

Standout Tracks: Wathca Weigh Me feat. MJG, Enjoy Yourself, Staggering And Stuttering feat. Psycho Drama, Boyz 2 Men feat. Lost Boyz & Canibus (My Favorite)

3.0 out of 5 stars Deffinetly not A +, more like a C -, July 4, 2004

I'll put it simple: nothing new. A few good tracks: Boyz to men, Watcha weigh me, maybe Understand the game. A lot of commercial beats...little dissapointing. Most songs are shallow. But, overall, not that bad.
