Having never purchased a knife case like this before, I have no concrete basis for my rating. However, in the few months I've owned the case, I can say that there just HAS to be a better way to carry your knives around. This one doesn't seem to hold them securely enough, as they occasionally "rattle" during transport (and, if you're not careful, they could fall out of the case). It's serviceable, but I expected more.

I've had my knife case for almost 12 years now, and it still keeps up with the abuse that comes with my profession as a chef. It was given to me by the knife sharpening guy as a thank you gift for the business, i had given him. Day in night out, it has been reliable, and worn well (even though it looks as good now as it did then)This case keeps my babies, (yes i said babies) save and sound, everyone has become accustomed to seeing me with my knife bag, where i go, they go, and even though i've had my henckel 4 stars for much longer, the case still gives them the ohhhs and awwes, from being protected. This is a must for the serious.

My daughter purchased the knife case for my birthday. I am an avid saltwater fisherman and, as such, need an assortment of knives, cleaning tools,and sharpening steels. I have many different shapes and sizes. This case is absolutely the best. It is designed wisely and is constructed very well. I thoroughly recommend it.

When I first received this case, I was floored with how professional it looks, and how well it cleans up with the synthetic leather. The problem is, while I was going to culinary classes and taking the case in and out of my locker, the knives would fall out because the elastic in the pockets don't hold well enough! This would be fine if the sides zipped shut or otherwise secured completely. This is unfortunately just a glorified knife roll with cardboard reinforced sides. And another thing, I've only had this for about 11 months, and the handle is already ripping out.

The childproof locks ARE a plus, though.

This is perfect for protecting your knives when left stationary in your house...

But if you finally decide to travel with it, as I just have, you'll lose some knives, unless they fit all the way into the mesh (meaning, if the knife is just a small paring knife). My regularly sized 6 in and 8 in chef knives fall out constantly, with very minimal shaking.

There have got to be better knife rolls out there.

This is a nice case, just doesn't keep knives in place. It could use an extra band to hold them in the mesh. I do like having 16 slots to stick things in. Definitely better than a knife roll. If purchasing, use extra caution when opening case since your knives may slide out!

Sturdy, rugged and spacious knife bay at a steal of a price.

I wanted a case that had sturdier sides than the "roll", as I am on the road with it a lot. I love this case...it has a lot of room, although, LOL, I could always use more! I have had this on the road for the summer, and it still looks great. My only critique, and request is for a shoulder strap. If they make one, I would be happy to buy it. It is inconvenient to only have the hand handle when I am in and out of catering trucks. Other than that....awesome.

My hubby got one of these and can't stand it. It's large and bulky. The case it's self is very heavy. It does have a very professional layout and lots of space, but is very difficult to lock when full.

I am currently a culinary student and this case is a very good deal. The 1st time I went thru culinary school, they darn near almost forced you to get a knife set and case from the school that was a no name brand brand and cost over $300 and the quality was poor. I was so happy to acquire this case I got along with a Henckels knife set totaled no more than $100. I have 2 issues with this J.A.Henckels case. The keys it comes with you do have to be careful not to be to forceful with it or it will bend and warp the key. The second issue I have is the knifes don't stay in place too well. You cant put the bare knives in the case or it will cut the mesh holding them in there. So I store them in the cardboard sleeves they came with. They protect the mesh from being cut but the knives are all over the place in the case but none have fallen out of the case. If those 2 issues were fixed, I would consider this product to be perfect. I love all of its other qualities especially considering the price.
