The knife block is made in Malaysia with typical hardwood. Nothing fancy. It's good for the price. What matters is that 19 slots, especially a slot for a cleaver that I really need it. It holds 2 santoku knives very well. The 8 steak knives slots are very useful that use to store paring and peeling knives instead. Also easy to acccess and grab the knives. It looks big in the picture and it is a lot bigger than my old standard block, but it doesn't take much more room since I put it in the corner. Happy that I bought it.

Nicely made knife block. More than enough slots for my needs. Reasonable price. Initially, Amazon sent me the wrong item (19 slot block), they corrected it right away. Here's info about this 20 slot block, emailed to me by JAHenckels. The cleaver slot is 3½". Four slots are 2". Two slots are 1½". One slot is 1¼". Two slots are 1". The eight steak knife slots are ¾". The other two slots are reserved for a sharpening steel and for kitchen shears.

This knife block was very good quality, and was very well packed. I received it very shortly after I placed the order. I bought this for my daughter who requested one for her birthday present. I had a lot of time to research this on the Internet and found out a lot about knife blocks. One thing is that it's hard to find one without the knives included in the sale. The other is to find a high quality wood and large enough holes because I didn't know what sizes her collection included. I finally chose the one with the best wood (my son-in-law does a lot of wood restoration around their house), the largest one with the most and largest holes, and one with the least advertising on it so they could display it out on their counter where they wanted it. This served all purposes and she was very very pleased with it! I kept the receipt in case she wanted to return it, but she loved it and was using it the very next day.

After years of storing knives in a drawer, putting fingers at risk in searching for the right one, and dealing with consistently dull or damaged cutting edges, I finally decided to "sacrifice" some counter space for a knife block. This one is perfect! My steak and utility knives fit in the front lower slots and are easily accessible. (However, my set of large steak-house style knives have blades that are too wide for the lower slots.) The upper portion of the block holds everything else, including wide-bladed vegetable knives and very long serrated blades like bread knives. The angle of the block is just right for the counter height, neither too high nor too low. The knives set well into the block and don't rattle about or risk spilling out onto the counter. The block is heavy enough that it never moves as I remove or return knives to it. It's great! Just as advertised.

The knife block arrived on time and is an excellent value for the price. There are slots shaped for just about any knife or implement you might have. Too often knife blocks have only standard slots and I have some decidedly non-standard shaped knives and sharpening tools. This one handles every shape. Another thing I like is that the slots are long and deep enough so that even the longest knife doesn't poke out the bottom and gouge the counter top. The only downside to that depth is that the knife block is therefore very long and sticks out from the wall more than others, so it has to be placed sideways or in a corner out of the way.

I originally bought a knife block from TruBamboo that was falling apart out of the box so I took it back and ordered this. The Henckels block is sturdy and well constructed, very solid. However, I think it is important to note that the picture is slightly different from the actual product. The design is basically the same, but the picture shows 4 larger slots, but the block I received only has two. So my chefs knife, santoku, and 10" slicing knife wouldn't all fit, but I used a drill to widen one of the slots. It is also good to note that my cleaver doesn't fit in the cleaver slot, which will only hold a 3.5" width cleaver and mine was 4". So I did buy another cleaver to fit the slot. Overall a 5 star product, but I gave 4 stars since the picture isn't the exact product I received.

This block has enough slots that are large - to hold just about all knives you will need. It has a 3 1/2 inch for a cleaver and a couple of 2 inches for a Santoku and a large chef's knife. It has several 1 1/2 and 1 inch slots. It has a place to store your steel and kitchen shears. It has a fairly small footprint considering it holds 19 knives. It's about 5 inches by 11 1/2 inches.

First, the pic shows 19 slots but the write up says 20 slots. Didn't know what I was going to get. Said In Stock, but took 15 days to ship with Super Saver.

Second, Amazon & J. A. went out of their way not to let me know what the slot sizes are. The one I got fortunately has 20 slots. One for scissors & one for a steel, a 3 1/4" cleaver slot, 4 - 2" slots, 2 each 1 3/8" & 1" slots, 1 - 1 1/4" slot and 8 - 3/4" slots for steak knives.

Now, my cleaver won't fit in the cleaver slot, but that isn't a problem because my 10" chefs knife won't fit in any of the other slots so it has to go in the cleaver slot. My 12" roast slicer doesn't have a prayer. All the other knives I don't use fit fine.

All in all it's a nice block at a nice price. I didn't like wondering for three weeks what I bought.

I finally have a knife block that will store all my knives!!! It doesn't seem to matter what size or shape the knife is, there is a slot for it! Especially the cleaver!!! On my old one, I had to put a nail on the back to hold the cleaver. Not with this one. And I love having our steak knives in the block along with the other good knives. I can't say enough good about this block. Its not the fanciest hardwood and there is almost no figure to the wood, but its still just fine.

In our block we have a 10" slicer, a 10" Chef's, 7" Santuko, 5" Cleaver, 8" bread, 8" fillet, 6" fillet, 4" paring, 6" Paring, Sharpening steel, 8 steak knives, and a 10" awful TV Knife that my wife seems to love! Ack!

Gotta love this block! It does make me happy!

Heavy and sturdily made, doesn't take up much more room on the counter than my old 6-slot Henckels block, and the price is quite reasonable. I am very satisfied with this purchase.
