Product Description

Amazon.com Review

From the classically designed handles to the razor-sharp blades, from the perfectly balanced weight to the comfortable hand feel, what's not to like about Henckels Professional S knives? As with all great cutlery, Henckels Pro S knives slice through vegetables, breads, and meats like they were melted butter. This Pro S 9-inch country bread knife features a serrated edge that can smartly cut through hard breads, such as baguettes, or soft breads without damaging the crust or squishing the loaf. Pro S cutlery is particularly durable (and corrosion-resistant) because of its ice-hardened stainless-steel construction. In addition, the knives are honed by laser to the optimum cutting angle, from the tip to the bolster. Fear not when making your own bread loaves or buying from the bakery--this knife will slice with the fine-edged efficiency of a professional. It's also dishwasher-safe. --Rivers Janssen

Product Description

Italians and French bread makers know that those fresh crusty loaves they are so known for deserve a proper cutting utensil. This 9-in. bread knife evenly slices through olive loaves, fresh French baguettes and those large unique-shaped breads that require a precision edge so as not to crush the tender inside. The Pro S version of this knife ensures a comfortable, safe grip.Pro S series knives are made of high carbon stainless-steel that will not stain, pit or rust. The metal used to construct the blades extends to the back of the handle to provide perfect balance. The bolster, the point that rests between your fingers and the blade, is smooth and comfortable, making these knives a pleasure to use when dicing, slicing and mincing. J.A. Henckels has been manufacturing fine cutlery in Solingen, Germany since 1731.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best for thick crusts, November 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Henckels 31037-233 Pro S Bread Knife 9-in.
A curved blade helps cut tough homemade bread when that bit of crust at the bottom hangs on until the end. Straight blades tend to hang up at the tip. I'm not sure that you need to spend this much on a bread knife, but it's a beautiful knife that fits with the rest of this set and it's the better of the two.

First of all they are both Henckel Pro-S knives. They don't have bad points.

#1 The country knife has a slightly curved blade as compared to the straight edge of the regular bread knife

#2 The country is 1" longer (duh)

And the winner is . . . 8" Regular. The reason? They are both made by Henckels and both are top of the line. Unless there is a real need for an extra inch of cutting surface and slight curve to the blade for a couple of bucks more(and so far I can only see that holding a bigger knife is more spectacular), go for the 8" regular unless you really believe that bigger is better.
