4.0 out of 5 stars Made in Thailand
These are decent knives, but they are made in Thailand, they are extra shiny and look to have a chrome cover or something. The price is fairly low and the serrated edges are really sharp. The knives do the job, but they do not reflect the quality of my other Henckel knives.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stamped knives - cheap, but ok
I bought a $180 set of J.A. Henckels from Costco and bought two sets of these steak knives because they seemed to match in terms of design. However, they are no match to the Costco Henckels knives in terms of quality. Please note that these steak knives are stamped and seem to be made from rather cheap steel. They are okay in terms of how they cut, and they are cheap...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Cutting edge, March 5, 2008
This review is from: J.A. Henckels International 4-Piece Prime Steak Set (Kitchen)
This the best steak knife set I have ever owned. A welcome addition to the dining experience. It does have a small serrated edge. (not big teeth)
and cuts through steaks and chops effortlessly. Feels very good in the hand. Not bulky at all and attractive too. This JA Henckel's makes the grade.

A decent knife for the money. Stamped in Thailand, full tang thru handle,
serrated on BOTH sides of cutting edge. There is enough blade here, one
could grind a professional cutting edge if desired. Will work great for
average user as is.

This is a very sharp pair of knives. Perfect for any small jobs you may have. My husband loves these knives. They are about the only thing he uses to cut food items in the kitchen. They are a must for any steak lover. You will not be disappointed with their quality or price.

These are not top of the line steak knives but they are really good steak knives for the money. The handles are plastic but the blade itself is really heavy and I still feel like I got a decent deal. Don't buy these expecting the same kind of quality you would get from a 80-100 dollar set of knives.

Very pleased with knives. Been looking for an everyday knife set for a while. They were all so expensive, but looked cheap and didn't stay sharp. These knives were just right and reasonable for this high quality. Nice enough for dinner parties as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good knives you can throw in the sink or dishwasher, November 29, 2010

These are good yet inexpensive steak knives that can be left in the sink or dishwasher without worry. I already have Henckels Pro S chefs knives. I wanted good steak knives to go with them that don't need to be hand washed, and these fit the bill.

They're obviously stamped, but that's OK. The stainless steel is strong and doesn't bend, and extends all the way to the end of the handle. The handles are well made and triple riveted, though they are a little small in my hands. The knife edge is serrated and cuts well enough, though occasionally you feel like you're sawing through your food instead of slicing through it (the blade edge is why it's only 4 stars instead of 5). I have no qualms about letting these sit in the sink overnight. And they look good in my knife block next to the Pro S's. I just ordered another set of 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good knives at a great price, September 20, 2011

These are not as expensive as Shun or Global knives, and their basic aesthetic reflects that fact. However, they still look smart and functionally are as good as any more expensive set. These were stamped in Thailand (not forged in Japan or Germany), and that does not affect their function. These are steak knives - they're utensils, not tools. When it comes to a chef's knife, the prudent thing to do is often to spend a good chunk of change (though Victorinox's $35 knives give more expensive Wusthof and Shuns a run for their money). Steak knives, however, are a different beast: they're used for meals, not mincing, dinner not dicing, chops not chopping. There's no benefit to having super-expensive German-forged steel in your steak knives, because the way that they are used would not see any benefit from their being manufactured as such (plus, stamping technique has gotten much better in the past several years- a stamped knife from 2011 is much better than one from 1995).

These knives are very sharp, look good, and after about three months of near-daily use have shown no signs of dulling or other wear. Serrations are present on both sides of the blade and the knives are full-tang. At $20 for a set of four, these are a great value.

This knife set is simply awesome. Fantastic quality and smooth cutting. What at great price, too! I love them. I do not usually think of a knife as elegant, but this knife set is classy!

However, they are no match to the Costco Henckels knives in terms of quality. Please note that these steak knives are stamped and seem to be made from rather cheap steel. They are okay in terms of how they cut, and they are cheap enough so I am not worried just throwing them into dishwasher rather than washing by hand as I do with my Costco Henckels knives. These steak knives are okay and are good value, but I would have bought a more expensive set the second time around.
