Product Description

Amazon.com

A crusty loaf yields easily to this knife, whose serrations are big enough to rate--in knife-speak--as "scallops." Henckels' International Fine Edge is an inexpensive cutlery line made in countries other than the company's home of Germany. These knives don't have bolsters and their blades are thinner and less strong. Handles are narrower and shallower than those of the company's premier lines--a feature those with small hands might appreciate. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars This knife is marvelous! August 19, 2000
I bake bread on the average of three times a week. With my old bread knife I could never slice the bread while it was still hot because it would just mash it down and the dough would stick from crust-to-crust. This baby slices right through the bread hot out of the machine like a hot knife through butter. With this knife you can slice the bread as thin as you like and you will have beautiful, even slices at a terrific price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife, great price March 24, 2002

I had my doubts when I paid only [price] for a Henckels knife that it would actually be a decent piece of cutlery. No need to worry! This is a great knife. It is sturdy, it keeps its edge, and it looks great with my other Henckels knives. This is by far the best bread knife I've ever used. I'm very pleased with the quality, and I'm glad I took a chance on ordering it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy knife for bagel lovers... June 21, 2000
The name Henckels is assurance in itself of a quality knife as German ingenuity translates into this simple but utterly efficient device. There are many bagel cutting gadgets on the market, but look no further then Henckels to give the consumer a knife that can handle the crustiest of bagels with relative ease. The International series is an excellent value for anyone looking to start a Henckels set or anyone looking for an excellent value. These knives have durable blades and the handles are strong and well weighted making cutting even easier. No kitchen should be complete without the durabilty and ingenuity of a Henckels. Put this one on your wedding shower/engagement party gift list as no new kitchen would be complete without this superior bread knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap price, not a cheap knife January 30, 2004

I have been wanting a Henckel bread knife for some time, and even had it on my Christmas list, but no one took the hint. When I came across this one for $9.99 at Amazon I was very skeptical, but after reading the other reviews I decided to order it. When it arrived I immediately opened the box to check it out. I found it to be a good size, feels good in my hand, is very well weighted, and after washing and drying it, put it to the test. I sliced into a tomato, and it worked beautifully----I can make very thin slices without smushing. Then, I peeled and sliced a grapefruit with it---lovely. I still haven't used it on bread, but will as soon as I have time to make some crusty peasant herb bread or a loaf of focaccia. I have made a gazillion purchases from Amazon, everything from books to phones, toys, cutting boards, flatware, videos, yoga mats, all kinds of goodies, but have never felt compeled to write a review until now. That should tell you how much I love this knife. I did not give it five stars only because I assume the German made version must be superior---but then look at the cost. This is one of my happier purchases from Amazon. If you would like a great bread knife to use on bread, slice sandwiches, tomatoes, fruit, etc., get this one. For ten bucks it's a steal. And if you should see bread knife on someone's wish list, give them this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for November 11, 2004

Although it cut great at first, within a couple of months it wasn't cutting much better than the cheap, generic bread knife it had replaced. At $10 or less, it's a decent knife but don't expect it to hold its edge for long. Henckels or not, it's still a low-grade knife.

5.0 out of 5 stars Run To Buy This One! July 13, 2002

Anyone who loves homemade bread as much as ido (and who is lucky enough to have friend who specializes in making all sorts of it)needs a great bread knife to cut it correctly. lord knows, anyone who sticks to store-bought bread today just has no idea how delectable, tasty, and substantial good, nutritious, and carefully made home-baked bread can be!

That much said, this is the perfect tool for cutting it with, and it is now being offered at a brgain basement price, which means I am about to order another one now that they are even less expensive than before. So hurry before I buy them out! Hahaha. Anyway, even chewy bread yields easily to this knife, with some major league serrations, and are known as scallops." This is a really is an inexpensive piece of cutlery, and while they don't have bolsters and their blades are thinner and less strong, for the price one can hardly go wrong. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing since, uh, sliced bread January 20, 2002
You will never tear into a loaf of home-baked bread again with anything but this serrated knife, once you try it.

We have one, a gift from a friend. (And true to the old wives tale, the friendship was cut off, later...)

The knife, however, stays with us and we never slice bread without it. It doesn't crush the crust and slices cleanly through the crustiest loaf of Tuscan bread or German deli rye. You can't beat the price, either. Unbelievable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife!! November 9, 2001
I had never used a bread knife before I purchased this as an addition to my kitchen. I was very pleasantly surprised at the ease that this knife cut through loaf of crusty sun dried tomato bread. Just the right texture to increase the surface so toasting really works well, without an excess of crumbs. And the price was excellent.
