For years I never owned a cleaver and then I saw Julia Child using one and a butcher friend recommend this one. It holds its tone or sharpened blade longer and I can whack a whole chicken and then use my boning knife and do the job in less than ten minutes.

And this cleaver is great for quickly dicing vegetables for stir fry. The handle is a nice weight and the blade is designed to allow me to dice-rock at a nice speed. Like I said I never owned or thought I needed a cleaver, then I was proven wrong when I bought this one.

I bought this product for my wife, who routinely chops up chicken. Previously she used some of those "permanently shrarpened" type chef's knives for the task, and they simply weren't up to the task-the bones just destroyed the edge in no time. The Henckels cleaver makes short work of them now, and she loves it!

Most cleavers I've owned tend to be top-heavy and unbalanced, but this one has a wonderful, natural heft to it which allows you to precisely butterfly a whole chicken in less than four strokes (not counting the removal of the chest bone). Fantastic!

I am a Chinese. The meat cleaver is my chef's knife. I'm using it everyday, cutting from scallion to pork. I even use it peeling the skins of ginger or potato. It's very comfortable using this knife. I highly recommend it.

You can cut meat, bones, and vegetables with this one knife. I rarely use my other knives anymore. I love this knife. It's worth every penny.

The Henckel International Classic knives are wonderful. I especially like the fact that the handles are slightly smaller than the other Henckels lines of knives.

The pricing on the International Classic knives are very affordable. The quality is fantastic, and the price is right. I'd recommend these knives to anyone looking for quality without going broke.

My sister-in-law gave my wife the 8" utility knife as a Christmas present. It's the best knife in our house, and we're hoping Santa adds to our collection this year.

I am a beginning cook. I have always marveled at the guys in the local shops whacking at the chicken, etc with a meat cleaver. I think I bought the thing for reasons of machismo alone. But, how easy it makes preparing meat and foul. It feels like an appropriate weight to my male hands. A couple of cuts and my chicken is dispatched. The knife looks well-made but it lacks the bolster of high-end Henckels. Unless you are cleaving whale or walrus, I doubt it matters.

I purchased mine from amazon about a year ago, and I have never needed to sharpen it. It still performs as well as when I got it. Makes cutting a whole chicken an easy task (bones have not created a dent on the edge), makes thin and clean slices of beef for stir-frying fun, and it is so easy to cut veggies for stir-fry, even tomatoes don't get crushed. Sometimes I feel guilty not using my chef's knife anymore. I never expected this cleaver to work wonderfully with this price! I love how I can easily swing the blade; it is well balanced and my wrist just loves its weight (a friend of mine bought a $1000 cleaver that was so heavy and did not cut good at all, so having been able to compare this with that really made me think that had I known how good mine works, I would have been willing to pay triple its price. Whoever manufactured the blade of this (it says Spain on the blade) has the right technology indeed.

I smoke a lot a Boston Butts and wanted an easy way to chop the pork. I've used the Henkels Cleaver several times and it works as expected. I can't imagine a cleaver costing 2 to 3 times the price could work any better.

I love this knife! I use it for vegetables, meat, fruits, basically everything. The weight is just right and easy to clean.
