I have been putting together a kitchen from scratch. This means that dollars are short at the same time that so many things are needed. I am pleased to say that there is/was no need to miss out on a fine knife set. In fact, while I have always valued having good knives easily available, since buying this set I have discovered that they can be an anchor for quickly pulling together a kitchen. These knives stay sharp and take care of every task. They feel comfortable in the hand. The only knife I've bought since is a cleaver to ease the preperation of asian dishes, and that was not essential. This set is a must have if you're starting from scratch.

We received this set as a shower gift over 5 years ago. The knives are still sharp! The steak knives are great because I use them for everyday items too. I've broken a tip on one of the knives and it was very easy to replace - just visit Henckels website the return instructions are very easy to find and follow.
These knives don't get pampered either - for 5 years they have survived the dishwasher as their only cleaning method. The block is showing some wear but nothing a little TLC won't fix.
I highly recommend this set!!!

This set should be rated for Danger----The knife block is not counter balanced, simply nudging the handles of the knives, cause the block to tip forward and spill the knives out! Also the slots for the steak knives are not set wide enough apart; subsequently the six knives cannot fit into the block at once. You would think that spending almost 100 dollars for a knife set would afford a decent block. Also I don't like the strange serrated edge on the Chef's knife-disconcerting when you are chopping with it that the blade grabs onto the cutting board, causing awkward movements.
I am very disappointed and will be returning it for a refund.

This set is amazingly sharp and feels just right in weight and size.
However, the only thing i do not like is that all the knives have serated edges so if i'm cutting vegetables, like potatoes, it doesn't matter how i cut it, the vegetables all have the serated look... and not a clean flat cut...
it's just preference though, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the knives, I just wish that at least one chopping knife didn't have a serated edge.

I just love serated knives and this set has the best knives in a modest price range. I've had the set for over a year and they stay sharp, period. I even have used them for cutting in the garden because they are so sharp they even work like small saws.

I bought this set about 5 years ago. The knives have not rusted or stained and have remained more-or-less "sharp" - I have never needed to sharpen them.

The edge has a special design to keep it permanently sharp - perhaps 50 or so jagged little "teeth" per inch.

When cutting raw meat, the edge accumulates a glob of meat on the edge which makes it impossible to continue to cut without removing it. Because of this edge, it is very difficult to cut thin slices of soft food. It seems to cut harder foods well, but I suspect it is more like ripping than slicing.

Think of these knives as kitchen saws more than kitchen knives.

I would not buy them again, despite the low price.

I received this knife set 7 years ago and it hasn't lived up to its promise to stay eversharp. The weight and balance of the knives is good for an inexpensive set, but the blade doesn't maintain its sharp edge. I love to cook and used these knives frequently. In the past year I've noticed a decline in their cutting ability, to the point were both my husband and feel we are sawing our food rather than slicing through it. We recently replaced the set with a higher quality set. I wish I could give these 2 1/2 stars, but I rounded to 3 due to the fact that I know there are much worse sets out there.

I love these knives. I have no problem with cutting through frozen food. When I was washing them in the sink I accidently cut my finger (a little cut). Other than that I would definitely recommend the knives to anyone who likes good cutting knives.

With a limited budget, I found this set to be an excellent value to start with compared to other imported brands.
In the future, I hope to purchase a top quality JA Henckels knife set as this company comes well recommended by industry chefs and professionals.

I received these as a gift 3 years ago to replace a hand-me down set I was given after a family member bought new knives. I hate these knives and wish I would have returned them. The serrated edges are terrible at cutting and almost as worthless for chopping. When cutting or removing skin from poultry, the serrated edges snag the skin and meat, making it difficult to get a clean cut. The steak knives are pitiful, and as one reviewer indicated, the teeth pick up bits of meat which accumulate on the blade. You can hear the blade sawing through the meat, which is why I liken these knives to a hacksaw. I cook a lot, and I dread using these knives. So much so, that I've resurrected the set these were supposed to replace which have smooth blades. I'll gladly sharpen those old knives every so often to avoid using the "eversharp" set.

The only positive thing about these knives is that they are indeed quite sharp.
