5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality at a reasonable price
I've used these knives before, and also a higher end line of steak knives made by Henckels. To be honest, both seem to cut steak perfectly fine. I do like the single piece construction of these knives over the higher end models, and they cost about half the price. I keep them in a knife block with my other knives, and I tend to use them for all sorts of small cutting...

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better.
Excellent set of knife with clean design and one piece construction. The design blends well with high grade stainless steel modernist silverware, much better than ones with wood handles. They cut reasonably well and have good heft. There are a few minor complaints, however: The quality of construction isn't as good as I have expected, with inconsistent handle back...

I do like the single piece construction of these knives over the higher end models, and they cost about half the price. I keep them in a knife block with my other knives, and I tend to use them for all sorts of small cutting jobs. They make short work of raw veggies as well as cooked steak, and they're a breeze to clean because of the one-piece construction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steak knives, June 22, 2000

Henckels quality, durability, and above all appearance. Use them daily and never have any problems with stains or rust. MUCH improved from my previous "name brand" set!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and no more rust!, November 6, 2002

I guess we all live life at 100 miles per hour these days. I know that I always hated taking the time to hand-wash steak knives while everything else went into the dishwasher.

I've been looking for steak knives I could put in the dishwasher for a long time, and these are the ones!

They have a pleasing, simple design with one-piece stainless steel construction and do a great job at cutting meat. Plus they go in the dishwasher and come out looking shiny!

The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that they are a little light and the balance isn't perfect, but for the money they are a great buy!

Excellent set of knife with clean design and one piece construction. The design blends well with high grade stainless steel modernist silverware, much better than ones with wood handles. They cut reasonably well and have good heft. There are a few minor complaints, however: The quality of construction isn't as good as I have expected, with inconsistent handle back finishes (some came with rounded back and some with flat), and none of the knifes have a straight blade - they usually are curved toward one side or the other. There are also some less than smooth finishes, but minor. For the price and the Henckels name, I had expected better. If you don't mind these minor flaws, and are looking for a one piece stainless steel steak knife set for less, there are very few comparable offerings that I know of. If cost is not a big issue, I suggest that you also look for the [price] SS steak knife set from Zwilliger Henckels. They *may* not have the problems mentioned, as the Zwilling Henckels label (a twin figure instead of a single stick figure) appears to me to have higher quality products in general than the Henckels International (perhaps aimed at a different market segment? I maybe wrong). Hope this helps.

These knives initially performed flawlessly, but after being washed a few times, they began to rust in the crevices on the handle ends. Maybe we just got a bad production run, but the stainless steel is beginning to turn into stainful steel. I'm going to send these back and buy something a little more higher end. You get what you pay for.

4.0 out of 5 stars sharp and economical, December 13, 2003

Despite another reviewer's experience, these knives are quite sharp. To compare them to plastic cutlery is ridiculous -- either the reviewer was being facetious or has an axe to grind for some reason. Notice that that review mentions that the buyer picked up his set for the same price as Amazon but at his local grocery store. How he knows that he even bought this same set of knives is beyond me.

So, I'll repeat: These knives are sharp. I don't find the handle particularly comfortable, but it's okay. My set arrived looking brand new -- no scratches.

Good value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Year Later and Still Looking Great!, September 7, 2003

About a year ago, I wrote a review praising these knives. Well, it's been almost a year since then, and they are still looking great. We use them about once a week, and they go into the dish washer with our regular dishes. They are showing no sign of rust and still cut as well as ever. They really are the best steak knives I've over owned--attractive AND practical!

I thought the knives would have been a better quality. I don't like the feel of the handle and its really light. I could have found better for the price locally.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only one complaint..., September 15, 2001

These are beautiful, quality knives and they cut well. My only complaint is that they are too small for my large hands. They also have somewhat thin handles. The end result is that holding them is not as wonderful as I would prefer. If you have large hands you may want to look for larger knives with thicker handles.

What an idea. Make the whole knive stainless. This way you don't have to mess with wiggly handles.

These knives look elegant on your table with their clean lines and solid silver look. They also perform their function well. The grip is comfortable and they feel balanced.

As far as sharpness I have been pleasantly surprised. They do not feel especially sharp but do a good job in cutting everything from steak to lasagna.

Since I have not had them too long, I can't speak to how well they keep their sharpness. If this is noticeably short I will write a second review.

These knives seem to be a good value, they function and feel well and look great.
