For bargain-hunters who want the quality of a Henckels knives but can’t quite bring themselves to pay top dollar, this Traditional series set offers the perfect compromise. The set consists of an 8-inch chef’s knife, an 8-inch carving knife, a meat fork, a 7-inch bread knife, a 6-inch utility knife, a 4-inch paring knife, and eight steak knives. A 9-inch steel keeps edges sharp and all components stash neatly away in the countertop hardwood block. Traditional cutlery is the most inexpensive of Henckels’s lines that still offers forged (rather than stamped) high-carbon stainless-steel blades. Bolsters and full tangs provide excellent balance during slicing and extend through the hardwood handles. Three stainless-steel rivets secure handles to the tang for strength. These may not be top of the line Henckels, but they are very sharp and cut much better than my old set of knives (some cheap $$ set from farberware). Plus, you can't beat the price! But because these are wood handles, you need to take a bit of extra care in keeping them looking as good as new. As the instructions say, do not wash in the dishwasher and occasionally use mineral oil on the wood handles to keep it looking new. I've also found that if I left a stain sitting on the blade for a while, it is harder to wash out, so I'd wash these knives right after use.

It would be a great knife set by just about any other manufacturer, but it's disappointing for a set with the Henckels name. The steak knives seem like a cheap afterthought. There aren't slots for them in the knife block and they seem to be poorly made in comparison with other Henckel's products. They're akin to butter knives with a serrated edge and are very awkward for cutting steak(for which they are intended). The rest of the knife seems to be up to par with what I expected of a lower priced set from Henckels.

Good value only thing steak knifes are cheap and very dull.
