This is a classic French chef's knife, with a broad blade and a curved cutting edge for rocking through a chopping task. The 8-inch blade suits most cooks; those with small hands might prefer a 6-inch blade and those with large hands might choose a 10-inch one. Henckels' International Traditional is a moderately priced cutlery line made in countries other than the company's home of Germany. The Traditional line is also the only cutlery Henckels makes with a wood handle. The steel is of lesser quality than that used in its premier lines. Also, the handles are narrower and shallower. While this chef's knife is dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended. --Fred Brack

I bought this knife a few days ago, and it's great. It's so sharp, that I didn't have to use any strength to cut a potatoe. And it has that guard at the bottom end of the knife which I like because it's much safer and reduces the risk of cutting yourself. Also, because it's a Henckel, it has to be good. I also love the price. Buy this knife, it's great.

OUTSTANDING knife!

I have been using this knife for over a month now and it has been a joy in the kitchen. It arrived sharp enough to shave with, and with application of the steel any time it has been used, has maintained that fine edge.

It is well balanced and fits my hand well. Truly an excellent product at a reasonable price for what you get. I prefer the wood handles over the more common plastic and will continue buying piece-meal until I have filled out the set.

I've had this knife for several years, and it's very good. Only problem is that the wood handle has split a bit, there's a crack going between the rivets. (No, I never put in in the dishwasher.) Otherwise I like it a lot.
