4.0 out of 5 stars Rust???
Usually before I make a purchase I like to read reviews to see how a product performs. In this case I'm sort of glad I didn't. When I saw this set it was bought on impulse because I liked its looks and had faith in the Henckels name. However, if I read the reviews complaining of rust I probably would have passed on it. 1.0 out of 5 stars Caution when purchasing this set, January 2, 2001

This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Earl 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I purchased the 45 piece Henkels Earl flatware for as a gift for my wife. She liked the pattern so much that we ordered another 45 piece set. However, after only 3 washings, almost every knife has developed rust in one or more places, most common though along the serated cutting edge. However, rust is also noticeable on several pieces along the tops of the knives and at the tips. We threw away the box the flatware came in along with the rest of the Christmas wrapping so I am waiting for the new set to arrive to look for warranty information. Since the rust problem is on several knives rather than one, it seems likely to be a defect in the manufacture rather than an isolated flaw.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rust after 2 washes, August 9, 2002

Knives rusted after two washes, forks after 3... going back to the store tomorrow. Using mild detergent, this is unacceptable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rust???, July 14, 2002

Usually before I make a purchase I like to read reviews to see how a product performs. In this case I'm sort of glad I didn't. When I saw this set it was bought on impulse because I liked its looks and had faith in the Henckels name. However, if I read the reviews complaining of rust I probably would have passed on it. I've used this set as my daily flatware for over a month now & wash it both in the diswasher & by hand. I've yet to see any sign of rust or rust spots whatsoever. The most I've seen are slight water stains & slight scuffing of the very shiny mirror finish. I'm not an expert on flatware, but I wouldn't consider this abnormal. If it's any reflection on my satisfaction I just ordered another 45 piece set so we always have flatware on hand. The set looks and feels good, and is nicely weighted and balanced. I think it's a good everyday flatware set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Flatware, January 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Earl 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
After months of looking for flatware that was heavy and felt like you were holding a utensil, we found the Henckles at a local department store. Not only do they wash up well in the dishwasher they have never had a dull or rusty finish. I am now looking for a complete set for 12 instead of the 8.

4.0 out of 5 stars It rusts!, December 10, 2001

I agree, the knives get spotty rust marks using regular Cascade dishwashing soap in normal water. This is clearly unacceptable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely rust and water marks, November 18, 2005
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Earl 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
We've had this set for years (came with my husband, so I'm guessing he's had them for about 4 years). Although we love the design, I am very disappointed in the rust. Also, one knife now rattles - something has come loose inside. Apparently they come with a lifetime replacement, so I'm going to look into that. Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality backed by a Great Name, October 12, 2005

I got these as part of our wedding registry here on Amazon.
I chose them because of the price, the name, and the number of pieces. I recently opened it after the wedding and ... wow ... so many pieces in the box. There's the 8 place settings, 5 serving pieces. Each place setting consists of: knife; fork; soup spoon; salad fork; teaspoon. Hostess set consists of: 6-inch sugar spoon; 7-inch butter knife; 8-1/2-inch serving fork; 8-1/4-inch solid serving spoon; 8-1/4-inch pierced serving spoon. 45 pieces total! It was wonderful and handy when we had guests over and our regular place setting set didn't cut it. After wash and use, when I put it next to my comparible-in-price-but-not-in-quality mikasa set I can really see the differece. They have remained very shiny and no water marks or rust so far.

I'm very happy with the selection!

2.0 out of 5 stars Rusty Knives, June 11, 2002
By
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Earl 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I have purchased this service for eight, and 6 of my 8 knives so far have rust. There seems to be a flaw at a stress point where the blade meets the handle. Every knife has the rust in the same locations. I do not have a dishwasher, they have always been hand washed. Only my knives are affected.

I have this flatware set and have had absolutley NO problems with it after several washings in the dishwasher. Love the styling and the "weight" of the pieces.

I've had this set for 4 years and love it. If you see water stains, it's your dishwasher, not the set. Try some vinegar in your rinse cycle and you may see a difference. And rust? No way...somethings up, as mine are just as beautiful now than when I first bought it!
