5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent Opus
Previously, our stainless steel silverware was showing its age and not aging well at all. We decided to try Henckels because we have there steak knives and love them. A few of our relatives have 18/10 Silverware and say they love the luster and shine on them. 1.0 out of 5 stars Rust on knives
Have been using the set for less than a month. Rust has started to form on the knives just where the blades are fused to the handles - right at the seams. Looks like rust starts from the inside of the handle. Unless design is changed, don't know how replacement knives will be any different. Too bad since knives are sharp and set is designed beautifully.

Previously, our stainless steel silverware was showing its age and not aging well at all. We decided to try Henckels because we have there steak knives and love them. A few of our relatives have 18/10 Silverware and say they love the luster and shine on them. The one thing I was worned about with buying a new silverware set was the weight and if the handles were comfortable. Well this set comes through on all of these things. The 18/10 is beautiful, so shiny, wash after wash. The handles, although thin are very comfortable and seem to feel as though they conform to your hand. My mother-in-law thought they would be uncomfortable as well, but found out at dinner time that they are so comfortable and just a nice every day set. I highly recommend this silverware.

I spent all day in the kitchen preparing for a dinner party and what do I get the most compliments on? My flatware. Our friends have gone crazy over the look and especially the feel of this great stuff. We could not be happier. We have had no problems with the knives. You won't be disappointed.

I love my set. I notice some have complained about the 2 piece construction on the knives, but mine are one piece (making me wonder if they have improved upon that flaw in the new sets). I love the feel of them in my hand and my whole family prefers them to other sets I have. Guests usually comment on the look and feel and want a set too. After numerous uses and washings, they are still looking like brand new.

I love this particular set from Henckels. The utensils feel very nice in your hand. The only complaint I have about it is that the utensils do get very slippery if your hands are wet.

The weight is very nice, not too heavy, but not light either. They just look darn cool at the dinner table.

The flatware has a very nice look and weight to it. Everyone compliments us on our silverware until they see the knives. Every knife in the set began to rust so we sent them back to Henckels for replacements (we had to pay the shipping). Now the replacements are beginning to rust as well. For this reason I wouldn't recommend this set to my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful silverware, January 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Opus 45-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
The hand conforms well to the utensils, despite that the handles have little substance to them. The silverware is quite comfortable to handle, and the luster is wonderful and maintained wash after wash. The only complaint that I have is that the handles of the knives are hollow and leak a white, chalky substance from the base of the hilt (where connected to the blade) if washed in the dishwasher.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it, but don't wash knives in dishwasher, January 22, 2002

I love everything about the Opus flatware except for the construction of the knives. The handles are hollow, and I think are filled with a white, chalky substance that has begun to leak from the groove between the handle and the blade (where the two pieces attach). I have stopped washing the knives in the dishwasher, and the problem has ceased. I would prefer the knives to be constructed of one piece of metal, and not have hollow handles. I still absolutely love the look and feel of the pattern, and plan to buy another set.

1.0 out of 5 stars They call this stainless?!?!?!, June 14, 2005
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Opus 45-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
This is a pathetic attemp at stainless steel!! Each and every knife has large rust spots on it. I have to now spend my money to send it back to Henckels to get them replaced,,,then keep my fingers crossed that its dosn't happen again. Odd it's only the the knives, another reviewer had the same problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quite disappointing..., December 19, 2006
This review is from: J.A. Henckels Premier Series Opus 45-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I was looking for a new flatware set and after looking at different sites on the Internet, I decided on Opus from Henckels. The main reasons were the modern, cool design and the world-class reputation J. A. Henckels has.

Well, let's just say I got the set today (not from Amazon) and it will go back tomorrow. While I loved the design of it (the 2 stars I gave are for that only), I cannot say the same for the quality of workmanship. This set contained at least one knife with a (tiny) rust mark on the blade, two forks with unacceptably rough edges at the end of the handles ("they scratched my skin"-rough), and one knife with a loose blade!

The set is made in China (the country etched ever so discreetly into the handles), and has nothing to do with the famous German Zwilling quality. I suspect J. A. Henckels is out for a quick buck and hopes for people like me who are seduced by the design. If you are looking for good quality and don't want your guests to scratch their hands with your flatware, keep looking. This set is truly not worth the money, not even on sale.

Since I am returning it, I cannot speak to the quality of the blades because I didn't try the knives. But this is flatware I would be embarrassed to have on my table when inviting guests.
