If you're thinking about investing in a pre-packaged set of Henckels cookware (the 7 or 10 piece sets), this 8" pan is a perfect trial piece, since it's not included in either of the sets. For the low cost of this pan, you can get some hands-on experience with the TwinCast line to see if you like the design and quality of the pans before buying a whole set.

And what about the design and quality of the pan? In a word, excellent.

The Henckels cookware has probably the most comfortable handles of any brand I've owned or examined in stores - thick (you might even say beefy) and nicely shaped, with a nifty indentation for your thumb. Compared to the thinner metal handles of most All Clad and Calphalon pans, the larger-diameter handle is easier to hold, and yields better control of the pan, especially if you're like me and have larger-than-average hands.

The body of the pan is of sturdy and substantial aluminum, with a very nice heft to it and very good balance. I've only been using the pan for a few months, so can't testify as to the long-term durability of Henckels' non-stick coating, but so far it seems to be of very high quality, offering no stick cooking and extremely easy clean-up. The exterior of the pan has a black coating that somewhat resembles the non-stick coating on the interior that makes cleaning the outside of the pan as easy as the inside - just a soapy rag or sponge, no scrubbing needed. This pan is really easy to live with and is very low maintenance.

The hanging loop and handle mount are cast as part of the pan, so there are no rivets to interfere with washing, collect gunk, or loosen with age. The handle is attached to the pan with a single screw, and so far is as tight as the day it came out of the box.

If this pan has a disadvantage, its it's size. I don't mean the 8" diameter, but rather the relatively long-for-it's-diameter overall length of 18.25 inches. For comparison, that's only a quarter of an inch less than the length of a 12" diameter WearEver pan that I use occasionally. Personally, I don't see this as a tremendous hindrance, but if you were to have these pans on all four of your burners at once, your stovetop could get a little crowded (at least on a standard 30" stovetop).

This is a very well made, well balanced, easy to clean, and even-heating piece of cookware, and even if you already have a fry pan of this size in your collection, for the price, it's easy to add another one - and I think you'll find yourself wanting more of the TwinCast line... like I do now!
