5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent all around product.
This slicer is excellent! First it is stainless steel all over...most have some other material for the handle so after years of use even if the slicer is in impecable shape the handles are bound to have suffered. (I have had wood handles split and crack and lucite handles that got nicked and shabby looking)

It is a very attractive item (this would make a great hostess...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sad....
We really liked this slicer when we first got it about 8 months ago...it feels like a nice weight in the hand-not too heavy, not too light. The handle feels really strong, the blade isn't bendable like some... It cleans easily and looks very attractive. We used it nearly every day, for my husband and kids LOVE cheese.

It was awesome at slicing the Gouda...

It is a very attractive item (this would make a great hostess gift or part of a cheese basket) and feels good in the hand. The angle of the slicer is good and its easy to maneuver the slicing ... It works best on harder cheeses (as do all items in this catagory). Soft cheeses like mozzerella do no slice well and tend to *string* as opposed to slice. A medium hard cheese like cheddar will slice well with it.

I really like the stainless steel so cleaning is very thorough and easy in the dishwasher. You can even use a bit of steel wool on it some of the cheese sticks and dries out on it.

It was awesome at slicing the Gouda they love- made more like shavings out of the extra sharp cheddar- but then it was also good for shaving chocolate or nice curls of parmesan. It actually has two cutting areas- a side knife edge and the central plane. It is really sharp- I sliced my finger open on the side knife edge when I stuck my hand in the dishwasher once. My mistake-(it was upright in the cutlery basket) I LIKE that it is so sharp. The plane blade is serrated- so it leaves little serration pinstripes in the cheese- I would prefer that it wasn't but it obviously doesn't affect its general usefulness.

No, the real problem is that, just like the other slicers we have had, its weak point is the join between the blade and the handle, and the actual join is about half the width of the stem. (WHY? I want to know.)
Sooo....8 months later, after a sudden bend about a week ago- the blade snapped off and I am left with two useless pieces.

Luckily- I can say from previous experience with a paring knife that snapped- Henckels is good about honouring their lifetime warranty and I expect in a few weeks or so I will receive my replacement. Still, I am sad that it isn't the ultimate lifetime cheese slicer.
