It's not that simple...,

This review is from: The Henna Body Art Kit: Everything You Need to Create Stunning Temporary Tattoos (Accessory)
This kit was my first experience with henna and I was extremely excited to get started. However, I was disappointed in several ways: 1) even though the cone applicator is traditional, it is extremely difficult to use and for a kit that is promotes almost 'instant' tattoos, some alternative should have been provided; 2) the henna paste was ineffectual -- I tried several times on both myself and my sister and only got faint results; 3) knowing far more about the henna process than I did when I bought this kit, it seems that the instructions are missing steps -- for example, the instructions say to let the henna dry for 1/2 to 1 hour and then scrape off the henna, however every other book I've read says to leave on the henna overnight or as long as possible, plus there is no mention at all of the lemon-sugar solution every other book mentions. I will say that the designs in the book are very creative and there is good information on how to select fresh henna. However, I would not recommend this kit at all. You are better off making your own henna and designs.

Nice, good-looking, but a bit misleading,

While I used this book and kit to do my first mehndi, I disliked the cone applicator used in the kit. I did like the transfers that were included, although no information was offered on how to make your own transfers. The information on how to do your own freehand designs was also nice, and the henna was good-quality. The reason I say it was misleading is that the information was presented in a "this is the only way" style, and the resources listing in the back gave you the impression that Halawa Henna was the exclusive source for henna. And don't rely on getting your questions answered from Halawa - they'll just tell you to shell out a couple hundred bucks for their classes, and all questions will be answered. Overall, the kit is good for a first-time experience, but get your questions answered at www.mehandi.com, and order replacement supplies at www.castleart.com (I am not affiliated in any way with either).

Good For Beginers, not so Good if you know Mehndi at all.,

I bought kit and was upset by the small amount of henna. The book tells you very little about creating your own henna paste; its all mixing solutions not telling you how to do it yourself. It does contain excellent transfers that allow beginners to do great tribal peices and traditional Indian peices. But the weakness of the book is it only concentrates on these designs, not training you to do your own designs.

Wonderful,

A big group of friends and I tried out this kit together and we had wonderful results. The henna went a very long way, much more so than I had expected. We had to mix a little water into the cones because they were a little too thick, but the rest of it worked great. You will want to reenforce the sides of the cones with tape before you start, because no matter what the seams (they are shaped zip lock bags) eventually give with the force of pushing the henna though the cone. We all had wonderful, dark orange results two and a half hours later. Leave the henna on longer than the author suggests, until it is mostly flaking off by itself (say 2 and a half to 3 hours).Good luck!

Not impressive, overall...,

Although the book is very pretty, and contains some really nice designs, the henna kit was extremely disappointing. I followed the directions to a tee, and got very disappointing results as did all but one of my friends at my Henna party. Not recommended.

Disappointed,

I was disappointed with the amount of henna & few transfers. I also wish the kit had a bottle with an applicator tip instead of it being it that little baggie thing. But the book is very pretty, as someone else said.

Buying for the second time,

I liked this kit so much last summer that I'm purchased another for this summer. The amount of henna in the kit looks small, but as they say...a little goes a long way. I used it weekly on my ankle for about 6 months. I still have some left and plan to use that for at least another month. I always get compliments on my henna tattoos.

I have played with Henna before, and was looking for a good kit with a better explanation, history, and some insight as to how to shop for Henna products.
The kit comes with 2 cones of powder, 2 liquid mixtures and 1 bottle of oil(and some other stuff, including some cool designs that are discussed in detail in the book). After mixing the first batch, I realized it was too thick. No problem, just add fresh lemon juice until you have a smooth mixture that flows easily through the cone. The quality is great for beginners to play with and I found the cone to be well designed and easy to use. The real plus for this product is the book that comes with it. Aileen is obviously very talented and someone for anyone who enjoys this art to aspire to. Her book is exquisite in all aspects, from the art history to the application explanations, from her designs to the photography, and from the quality of printing to her expert selection of models(their skin was flawless). I found exactly the info I was looking for. Well worth the money I paid and an excellent addition to my growing library of Henna/Mehndi/Indigo Art. Thank you.

It's okay for beginner's inspiration...,
This review is from: The Henna Body Art Kit: Everything You Need to Create Stunning Temporary Tattoos (Accessory)
This book shows the basics, and was one of the first experienceI had with henna/mehndi. I am now a professional, and kits like thesewere what inspired me to pursue my knowledge of mehndi/henna body art. I encourage people to check out their local indian groceries for more henna. The stuff in the kits leaves a really faint stain.

IT IS BETTER TO GO TO A CLASS OR PROGRAM BECAUSE YOU WON'T MASTER IT WITH THIS BOOK. IF YOUR TOWN IS HAVING A FAIR OR WHATEVER ASK THE HENNA DUDE TO TEACH YOU OR TO JUST GIVE YOU SOME POINTERS.
