Best book on henna,
By Angel Lee "Liocorno Amethyst Moonstone" (Cleveland, OH United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Henna from Head to Toe!: Body Decorating/Hair Coloring/Medicinal Uses (Hardcover)
This is the best book I have found on henna, especially for beginners. Packed with color photos & unique design ideas from many different cultures, it is truly inspirational. It provides step-by-step instructions accompanied by illustrations that guide you through the entire henna preparation & application process. Coloring hair & conditioning nails are also demonstrated. Unlike many mehedi books, it also guides you through making the designs. Some of my favorite designs include a sunflower necklace, dragonfly back piece, orange blossom band, floral hand & lotus tapestry. Historical information, henna wedding traditions & a gallery are a nice bonus. A resource area listing henna suppliers & artists is also included. This book makes a great wedding present.

I just recently discovered the art of henna, and I fell in love. This book is a wonderful start, with recipes and history of this amazing plant. It is a very pretty book, with easy to follow directions and lots of design ideas. It also outlines a lot of the cultural aspects of henna, which is nice, because a lot of the books focus only on the drawings and not on the meanings. I recommend this book highly to anyone interested in henna.

Having read about everything I can get my hands on about henna and mehndi, I found this book to be well written, and an informitive begining for the novice henna enthuisist. I would not recomend it for those who are more interested in learning designs and techniques.

The book gets points for presentation, it is pretty and the photographs were excellent to use for examples. Honestly though, if you are looking for the basics of Henna I would just recommend going online and doing research there. There are tons of knowledgable people out there with their own sites. I didn't really learn anything from this book that I couldn't have found online. Use toothpicks to apply your henna (it takes longer but I think it's less messy than cones) and make sure you put STRONG black tea in your mixture.

I truly appreciate this book. I did not get it as a kit. Just the book. The recipes were easy and effective. Some make it harder than it has to be! I used this book and a bottle and tip set to get started. I used Beachcomber's packets of henna. I followed the recipes in the book and had great results. I'm looking forward to practicing more of the beautiful, intriguing designs!
I also like the facts that were presented about natural healing properties of henna and some of its historical uses. It also gives you recipes to use to color your hair, condition your nails, and get rid of headaches. Some of the various traditions of henna are also covered in this book. There is actually a lot packed into this little book. I like that.

Love it!,
This review is from: Henna from Head to Toe!: Body Decorating/Hair Coloring/Medicinal Uses (Hardcover)
I purchased a used version for 1.29, so it did not come with the supplies. This book has a lot of information about how to prepare the skin, how to mix different ingredients for different effects, detailed step-by-step designs, with explanations of how and why for everything. It breaks things down to simplicity, without losing any important iformation.
Don't worry, this is not one of those books that takes up too much time and space with fairytales, myths, or pictures. The book includes all of these in a way that will help you instead of just being added to make the book thicker. You're going to learn from this book.

Henna as it should be,

This book is the only one I have found that includes actual Mehndi mixing directions and not some vague add coffe, or tea and mix. She includes two receipes, and one is a never fail receipe which brought out a strong color in even the most low grade henna I had purchased. Also she has hints and ideas for additives into your mehndi mix that I had never even contimplated. She included multiple instuctions for skin care while the mehndi is drying and solutions to put on the mehndi. She also includes a few pages on what designs compliment what hand types, which I have not seen in any other mehndi book. The designs are from multiple cultures and many have step-by-step instructions to illustrate how to break complexed designs and patterns down to swirls, triangles, and lines. One of the better how-to-books on mehndi and henna that has been published in recent years.
