When Henry VIII died in 1547 he left a church in England that had broken with Rome - but was it Protestant? The English Reformation was quite different in its methods, motivations and results to that taking place on the continent.
This book:
* examines the influences of continental reform on England
* describes the divorce of Henry VIII and the break with Rome
* discusses the political and religious consequences of the break with Rome
* assesses the success of the Reformation up to 1547
* provides a clear guide to the main strands of historical thought on the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and To-The-Point, May 25, 2007

This review is from: Henry VIII and the English Reformation (Lancaster Pamphlets) (Paperback)
In researching the English Reformation and King Henry; I found this book to be the most concise and to-the-point writings ever written. Not only does he discuss the political and personal choices that Henry made; which brought about the Reformation, but he explains how different historians view and think about this time in history. If you know nothing about the Reformation and want an easy-to-read; yet accurate representation...you need this book! It is the one that will lead you to other writings on the Reformation as well.
