Book Description

June 11, 2002 Other
The one and only Henry Hook is up to his mix-and-match tricks again, with another innovative book whose whole is far greater than the sum of its parts. One part crostics, one part riddles, Henry's latest creation is like two books in one. And to make things more entertaining, everything is in verse.

This unique book consists of 50 brand-new crostic puzzles (with rhymed-couplet clues), leading to 50 "Who am I?" riddles in the form of off-the-wall limericks. The subjects are real and imaginary, historical and contemporary, human and "other." As usual, Henry thoughtfully provides explanations and arranges the answers so they're not revealed accidentally.

This review is from: Henry Hook's Crostics with a Twist (Other) (Spiral-bound)
If you're a fan of Thomas Middleton's challenging Acrostics, you'll find this batch very easy. The Random House "Puzzle Meter" on the cover rates it on the Hard side: I shudder to think of what their "Easy" puzzles are like! And Mr. Hook's doggerel definitions end up being more annoying than fun after a while. But this would be a good starter book for someone just beginning Acrostics.
