Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-5-- Two easy-to-read volumes that will hold the interest of students and could lead them to further study. Since more is known about Magellan, Asimov includes details about his early years and his life at court while the text about Hudson is mainly concerned with his voyages and some guesses as to what made him interested in the sea. Both books focus on the men's voyages, especially the troubles that they encountered, as well as the makeup of their crews. They feature full-color maps and reproductions as well as illustrations, which are informative but not particularly accomplished. Labeled drawings of the main ships are presented, comparing them in size to a semitrailer. The glossaries are limited in scope and there is nothing in the text to lead readers to them. --Margaret C. Howell, West Springfield Elementary School, VA
