Hands On the Radio DaddyO,
By
This review is from: Henry Lee Summer (Audio CD)
My good buddy BP sent me this little jewel on cassette back in '88, telling me that the promo for this album stated,". . .not just another skinny, longhaired kid with a guitar!" I think he also told me that Henry was J.C. Mellencamp's cousin. With that hype aside, I found this album to be a great collection of what I would refer to as garage style rock with Henry's killer "whiskey soaked" vocals. I loved his vocal banter on "Wish I Had a Girl," and thought the crunchy guitar chords and background babe vocals made it the perfect car cruisin' hit. I loved "Hands On the Radio" as an example of how those of us who grew up in the 70's got all of our new music from Casey Casem's Top 40. All of the other songs on this album are solid, if not as spectacular as the first three cuts. This is a perfect album to crank up while cruising with friends or cranking things up at a backyard BBQ. "Check it out, Leroy!"

Henry Lee at his best! (almost)!,

This is the Henry Lee album all of his others will be measured by. "Wish I had a Girl" , "Wing Tip Shoes" , & "Got no Money" are all Henry Lee Classics. One of the keys to enjoying Henry Lee's music is to see one of his live performances. His work is so much more enjoyable once you've had a taste of his incredible charisma, energy level & stage presence. Move over James Brown, because in my book at least, HENRY LEE SUMMER is the hardest working man in show business!!!

A Wonderful Singer, Songwriter and Performer!,

Henry Lee Summer remains one of my favorite performers of the late 80's and early 90's. In addition to loving his music, he is a fantastic concert performer. I saw him every time he was in my area (Missouri and Illinois) and he held you spellbound with his voice and stage presence. I still smile when I remember him breakdancing as he was so tall! We always had a fantastic time at this concerts. I know I am probably showing my age (30's), but the music nowadays makes me miss Henry Lee even more. Forget Puff Daddy, we need Henry Lee! I'm thrilled that he is still performing and has a new CD. I hope he will tour again as I know there are many out there who miss him. And many who perhaps have never heard his music but would become fans. I wish him the best of success with his new CD, and highly recommend all of his CD's.

HLS's major-label debut was definitely a scorcher! Henry Lee screams like James Brown and has the rock riffs to back it up. For those of you who weren't fortunate enough to have been in central Indiana when HL was honing his skills, many of these songs were originally on an independent release titled 'Time For Big Fun'. Personally I think that album is every bit as good as this one.
Henry Lee was always at his best onstage -- bounding with seemingly endless energy from beginning to end. Unfortunately, CBS/Sony forgot why they signed him in the first place (a versatile heartland rocker) and tried to shape him into being the 'next Michael Bolton' (a requisite Diane Warren collaboration on each of his last 2 Sony releases). What in the hell were they thinking!?! Henry Lee is still making music (releasing them independently of course) and rocking the stage on occasion, but this is prime listening!

The BEST in Rock-n-Roll,
By A Customer
This review is from: Henry Lee Summer (Audio CD)
I grew up in Brazil IN, Henry's home town, so his music was always on the radio. This album is one of his best. It really shows his singing ability and his style. Henry is a great performer live, and on record. His music has such a great good time feel to it. And he has produced some of the best ballads to ever be heard. And unlike most musisicans, you can feel and relate to what he is singing. The release of his new album, Smoke and Mirrors, which unfortunately is regional, shows he has only gotten better! Henry is definitely THE BEST UNKNOWN IN ROCK-N-ROLL!!!!!!!!!1

A great voice singing good pop songs,

I never heard of Henry Lee Summer until "Wish I had a Girl" came out. I was sure that with his vocal talents, looks, performing abilities, and songwriting that he would become a superstar. Unfortunately, this was not to be. This effort is his best to date though, and worth a good listen. It's good ole pop music, and it's almost a waste of such an incredible voice--but not quite! Acts such as Milli Vanilli, Vanilla Ice, Hanson, etc. have become superstars and since faded in the time that this CD has existed, but this is music that lasts.

My Music Review,

This review is from: Henry Lee Summer (Audio CD)
Although, I'm originaly from Brazil, Indiana (Henry Lee Summer's Hometown) I enjoy his music. I have his very first LP record. "Stay With Me" back in 1986. That record was a good one. This CD almost got him into stardom. With "I Wish I Had A Girl" appearing in the Top 40 charts. Only lasted for a week though. This album is one of my favorites. "Wing Tip Shoes" & "I Know How You Feel" is two of my favorite songs. It makes you snap your fingers. I've seen Henry in concert 3 times, he rocks. I wish Henry Lee summer all the best in the 21st century. Thank You!!!
