Kindergarten-Grade 2–During a sleepover, six boys and their dogs have the run of the attic at Patrick's house. They have a fine time with food, games, videos, and shadows made with their flashlights. Eventually the dogs crawl into their boys' sleeping bags, except for Mudge, who has one of his very own. The text and sentence structure seem simpler than some other Level 2 books, making this title one of the easier ones in the series. Stevenson's colorful cartoons capture the fun-filled antics of the active boys and their pets. The story, told in four chapters, lacks dramatic conflict, but that won't bother kids. The vicarious pleasure of watching what happens at the sleepover will be involving enough for the series' many fans. With easy-to-read words set down on plain backgrounds, intriguing details in the cheerful illustrations, and a spirit of good-natured fun, this book will suit beginning readers very well. Level 2 readers are for kids reading independently and Henry And Mudge And The Big Sleepover provides another Henry and Mudge story with fine short chapters, varied sentence structure, and adventure. Here Henry is invited to a sleepover party and nighttime adventures seem to assure nobody will get to sleep, especially when a father decides to participate. Sucie Stevenson's drawings are fun embellishments.

We have about 9 of these books. Each is a unique story, there is no formula here. They are creative stories that deal with real life situations in a special Henry and Mudge fashion. They are warm and loving and fun. Henry loves his big dog Mudge. I am going to buy more of them.

Mudge books are the best for the under 8 year old group. I have read over 30 of these to my grandkids and NEVER been disappointed with the story line, the humor or the artwork - all top notch, educational and age appropriate. High recommend Mudge to everyone - even adults enjoy reading Mudge to children.
