Beverly Cleary was born in McMinnville, Oregon, and until she was old enough to attend school she lived on a farm in Yamhill, a town so small it had no library. Her mother arranged to have books sent to their tiny town from the state library and acted as a librarian in a room over a bank. It was there that Mrs. Cleary learned to love books. Generations of children have grown up with Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, Ralph Mouse, and all of their friends, families, and assorted pets. Beverly Cleary continues to capture the hearts and imaginations of children of all ages throughout the world.

Very Funny,

This year, when Mr. Huggins goes fishing, his son Henry wants to come, too. But Henry's dog Ribsy is causing trouble. So they make a deal, if Henry can keep Ribsy out of trouble for a month, Mr. Huggins will take him fishing. Henry thinks it'll be easy, but he soon learns it's going to be harder then he thought. This book was my first introduction to Beverly Cleary, so it holds a special place in my heart. Henry's adventures are real, funny, and heart-warming. The chapter "Ramona and the PTA" is not to be missed; it's a riot. I highly recommend this kid's classic.

Michele's Book ReviewHenry and Ribsy is a wonderful book. Henry and Ribsy are funny. It's descriptive and has adventure. This book is about a boy named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wanted to go fishing so bad. When his father said "Yes" henry was proud! So they went fishing with his father and his dog Ribsy. Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish! Henry and Ribsy are funny! It was humorous when Romona sat on ribsy and yanked his ears. It was funny when Henry put two strings on a bone tied the two string to his two teeth and summoned Ribsy, and Ribsy ran with the bone and pulled out Henry's two teeth. It was descriptive when Henry told about how he was going to pull out his two front teeth. It was also descriptive when Henry trys to make up a story trying to bluff his friends that his hair is not messed up. It was a real adventure when Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish. I couldn't stop reading when Ribsy fell out of the boat.

henry and ribsy,

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books that are fun to read and books that have you wanting to read the next page and never stop reading. This book is very good and I think that it would be better for the younger aged kids, around 8 years old and up. This book keeps you wanting to read on and see what happens next. When I was done reading Henry and Ribsy, I noticed that I was never bored while reading. This book is a very easy book to read and it never gets slow. It's a fun book to read. The New York Times says, "Ribsy complicates life as only a loyal, bumbling, well-intentioned mutt can. Few writers for children handle everyday comedy so realistically as Beverly Cleary." Another quote by the magazine Kirkus says, "Henry's audience is in for more laughs. Another Cleary hit!" The magazine Booklist says, "Genuinely funny". Those quotes describe the story very well and describe how the book Henry And Ribsy is a fun book to read.
