Very Funny,

This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
This year, when Mr. Huggins goes fishing, his son Henry wants to come, too. But Henry's dog Ribsy is causing trouble. So they make a deal, if Henry can keep Ribsy out of trouble for a month, Mr. Huggins will take him fishing. Henry thinks it'll be easy, but he soon learns it's going to be harder then he thought. This book was my first introduction to Beverly Cleary, so it holds a special place in my heart. Henry's adventures are real, funny, and heart-warming. The chapter "Ramona and the PTA" is not to be missed; it's a riot. I highly recommend this kid's classic.

This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Hardcover)
Michele's Book ReviewHenry and Ribsy is a wonderful book. Henry and Ribsy are funny. It's descriptive and has adventure. This book is about a boy named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wanted to go fishing so bad. When his father said "Yes" henry was proud! So they went fishing with his father and his dog Ribsy. Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish! Henry and Ribsy are funny! It was humorous when Romona sat on ribsy and yanked his ears. It was funny when Henry put two strings on a bone tied the two string to his two teeth and summoned Ribsy, and Ribsy ran with the bone and pulled out Henry's two teeth. It was descriptive when Henry told about how he was going to pull out his two front teeth. It was also descriptive when Henry trys to make up a story trying to bluff his friends that his hair is not messed up. It was a real adventure when Henry caught a twenty-five pound fish. I couldn't stop reading when Ribsy fell out of the boat.

This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read books that are fun to read and books that have you wanting to read the next page and never stop reading. This book is very good and I think that it would be better for the younger aged kids, around 8 years old and up. This book keeps you wanting to read on and see what happens next. When I was done reading Henry and Ribsy, I noticed that I was never bored while reading. This book is a very easy book to read and it never gets slow. It's a fun book to read. The New York Times says, "Ribsy complicates life as only a loyal, bumbling, well-intentioned mutt can. Few writers for children handle everyday comedy so realistically as Beverly Cleary." Another quote by the magazine Kirkus says, "Henry's audience is in for more laughs. Another Cleary hit!" The magazine Booklist says, "Genuinely funny". Those quotes describe the story very well and describe how the book Henry And Ribsy is a fun book to read.

I want some P.T.A!,

This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
I have been an unabashed Cleary fan since I was six, and I would have trouble dictating a clear favorite among all of her excellent books, but this would definitely be in the top five because of the chapter about Ramona and the P.T.A., which is so funny I literally can't read it out loud for laughing too hard. Henry, Ribsy, Beezus and Ramona are destined to become classic characters in American childhood, if they haven't already, and these books have already been around long enough to provide a charming glimpse into times past.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
It was a story about a kid named Henry Huggings and his dog named Ribsi. Henry found Ribsi and wanted to take it home but he could`nt take it home because it wasn`t in a cage. Henry called his dog Ribsi because his ribs popped out but his real name was dizzy. Henry and his dog Ribsy passed through a lot of adventures. Henry didnt like the playthey were going to make in the school he was going to be the baby. Henry and Ribsy lved happy until the owner of Ribsy goes to the street Klitklat looking for Henry Huggings. Henry lets Ribsy decide who does he want to stay with. I liked this book because it`s about a dog and I like dogs a lot

Henry and Ribsy Biggest and Greatest Adventure,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
This story takes place in the present in September because in that year all of the people who like going fishing go. The story is important because is how Henry changes Ribsy behavior so he can go fishing with his dad.
This book is mostly about a kid named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wanted to go salmon fishing with his dad because he is jealous that Scooter his best friend went fishing. Scooter got a salmon that weight 15 pounds. Henry is jealous so he says that he will go and get a chinook that weight 20-30 pounds. Then Henry ask his dad, but he said that he need to keep Ribsy out of trouble with the neighbors. The middle of the book is a lot of funny because Henry tried to get his teeth out because their already loose. Henry uses his dog to get them out. When his mom comes home from store she cuts Henry hair in a funny way. In my opinion I like when Henry father says that he needs to take care of Ribsy to go salmon fishing with him. It is very funny story. I would recommend this book because it tells you how a father educates a child so he can go fishing with him. A child can learn how to take care of dogs like Ribsy in the story.

My 8yo son loves these books. As a matter of fact, we just finished the last book in the series and he wants to start over again. They have alot of fun and adventure that keeps boys interested. It neat to see my son and his older brother who listened in on our reading time talk about the characters of the books and even act them out. I would highly recommend all the books in the Henry Huggins series to anyone.

Henry and Ribsy,
By
This review is from: Henry and Ribsy (Paperback)
ISBN 0380709171 - Beverly Cleary is one tough author to dislike. She's got writing for children down pat, and her books appeal to boys as well as girls - that's no small feat in world where everyone looks at Goosebumps as "boys' books" and the Babysitters Club as "girls' books". Cleary simply does "children's books" and does them well.
Henry would like very much to go fishing with his father, at the very least so that he can catch a really big Chinook to show up Scooter. Mr. Huggins even agrees to take Henry along, on one condition: keep Ribsy out of trouble until then. Piece of cake! thinks Henry. Blindly loving his dog, he cannot imagine that keeping such a good dog out of trouble would require much effort at all. But Ribsy is Ribsy and, despite Henry's confidence, Ribsy just can't seem to help himself. Fantastically funny stuff! The trouble Ribsy can manage to get into never fails to make me laugh, even after all these years. While times have changed and your children probably don't wander the neighborhood quite as freely as these kids do, children and dogs stay pretty much the same and, man, are they fun. The series of suggestions for how Henry should pull out his loose teeth is, alone, worth the price of the book. Get it for your kid - and be sure to read it, again, yourself. - AnnaLovesBooks |
