Love the Phonics Readers,
By Lovebooks (Tokyo, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hen's Pens (Easy Words to Read) (Paperback)
We are big fans of the Usborne Phonics Readers series. They are perfect for beginning readers. We have the entire series and lend them to friends and neighbors whose children are learning English. I read them to my 3 year old but my 6 year old reads them herself. Of all the books in the series, Hen's Pens is my favorite. She is such a busy little hen and the results of her artistic efforts are humorous.
If you have a 4 or 5 year old who is just on the cusp of reading these books will be a big help.

Phonics books,
This review is from: Hen's Pens (Usborne Phonics Books) (Board book)
I love these books. I am a great believer in reading phonics books to children and books that rhyme and have great sound. When you read to them and talk about what is the same in words, they will make the connection. It's beautifully illustrated, colorful and pretty soon they will be reading it to you. It's a book that is easy enough for them to carry around with them. Great stocking stuffer.

My daughter really liked this book when she stayed at the hospital, but I should of made sure it was the board book, that one was more interactive.

This is a really cheaply made board book, it reminds me of the books that you pick up for a dollar at Target. The "flaps" are simply cardstock glued to the page that you can flip open. The story line is short and lame.

We bought three books; Sheep Can't Sleep, Shark in the Park and Pig on a Dig for our grandson for Christmas. He is just beginning to read and we thought these would be a great addition to his library. Wow! We are so impressed. The story lines are great, the pictures are beautifully done and because the same characters appear in all of the books, he was engaged and wanted to read them over and over. The use of phonics gave him the courage to READ OUT LOUD. Great books.
