About the Author

Isha Schwaller de Lubicz spent her youth studying Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and Hebrew theology and mysticism. As pupil of R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz and later as his wife, she went on to investigate other religions and philosophical systems, including Taoism, Islam. Her most significant work was done in Egypt, where she lived for fifteen years among the temples and the tombs. There, patient labor and exceptional circumstances enabled her to penetrate the secret symbolism of the hieroglyphs. Her discovery aroused the enthusiasm of the eminent Egyptologist Alexandre Varille, who devoted the last ten years of his life to verifying and developing its practical application. Thus was unveiled a wisdom that for thousands of years had taught men the science of life. . . and of its triumph over death.

The Sage pointed to the statue of the god and told Chick Pea, "This is a statue of you, of Horus." Chick Pea replied, "But I am Chick Pea." The Sage replied, "If you wish." This isn't verbatim but if you appreciate that statement.. get this book.

The coming of age in ancient Egypt of a brilliant young man that covers details of everyday life, organization of the social structure and the theo-political belief structure seems pretty historically accurate.The name Her-Bak echoes for me Per Bak with this nature based religion where
the idea of order are much like self-organized criticality.
Somehow the author lacks the ability necessary to "hook" the reader's interest and involve him emotionally with the main
character: the result is too impersonal for me.
It is an educational book and might be better broken up into wisdom myths or tales.

This is an excellent and readable novel that tells you more about the essence of the ancient Egyptian religion than all of the scholarly non-fiction put together. Note that the supposed follow-up to this book (Egyptian Initiate) is in contrast an almost unreadable more academic work.
