Book Description

February 2, 2008
"There is so much going on in this book. One minute I'm laughing; the next minute I'm crying and then I'm steaming mad at some fucktard I don't even know. When's the follow-up coming out?!" - T. Caraway, Age 22, Chicago, IL @ "Kilgore really makes me want to think twice about quitting my job at the record store and heading to LA like I have always dreamed, yet she makes it seem like so much fun! And I can't date her cuz she'll write about all the stupid things I do." - J. Garner, Age 25, Tokepa, KS @ "Just tell me now, is there anything in your book that would make me have to apologize to anyone or pick and move in the middle of the night?" - P. Buenger, Pasadena, Texas (Robin's Mother) @ "You used cuss words in your book?! Well, that's not very cultured...There went your shot on Oprah!" - M. Nowak, Pasadena, TX (Robin's Grandmother) @ Emotional. Raw. Thought provoking. Buy this book and put it by the toilet or in your overnight bag. It's a guilty pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Into Your Bathrobes!, April 24, 2008
By
T. M. Jackson (Chapel Hill, NC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: In Her Bathrobe She Blogged (Paperback)
After first uprooting her life by moving to Los Angeles from Texas, and then again shortly after by quitting her solid, if spirit-breaking, job as a paralegal to become a make-up artist, Robin Kilgore was sucked into the internet social networking world of MySpace. With her sharp wit, bald honesty, amazing luck in having bizarre things happen around her all the time, and new work schedule of No Job, Robin began to blog about her life. This book is the first product of those blogs, a gathering of all the blogs she wrote in 2006. This year was one full of turmoil and change, and Robin frankly writes about a huge variety of events, people, and preoccupations that came and went from her life. Starting at the end of 2005, the book is only divided by entry, each dated blog as it was published on MySpace. Her style is consistently hilarious and honest, and she is engaging and warm. It was such a pleasant surprise to read a first book, self-published no less, that was so easy and enjoyable to read.

There are a few minor flaws, but even they do not detract very much from the enjoyment you'll get from this book. The concept of a collection of blogs is very immediate, both in terms of communicating to the reader what's going on in the author's life and in terms of what people are doing and talking about right now, sort of like Bridget Jones for 2008. Still, I found myself wishing for an arc - a more consistent storyline, if you will. Starting in December 05, Kilgore experienced a combination of massive changes and a prolonged period of creativity in the first three-quarters of 2006. But then the tone and frequency of the blogs changes considerably, so that the book has a big shift towards the end. I find the stories and experiences that take place during the period before September to be the most interesting, and that period to be full of enough drama and enough of an emotional journey to satisfy me. The blogs that come after that are interesting and enjoyable, but have a different feel from the first chunk of the book. I felt that the heart of this book is in the collection of blogs we know she probably wrote in her bathrobe while sitting on that gold couch - where she was feeling her way around the film industry, relationships, and hanging out without a job in Los Feliz, California, and everything else belongs in the next great book we can expect from this talent.

But don't let that deter you! These are only small flaws, and the overwhelming characteristics of this book are its charm and humor. There were parts that had me crying with laughter, parts that made my heart ache with sympathy, and parts that made me furious with vicarious indignation. Robin has a way with language that makes even mundane events like going to the store a treat to read. This, folks, is a book you'll treasure.

As you were.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth your while!, July 8, 2008

This review is from: In Her Bathrobe She Blogged (Paperback)
Robin's book "In Her Bathrobe She Blogged" is without a doubt a great book! She dictates her life, as a single woman in the concrete jungle of Las Angeles. In the begging she describes her life with the remnants of the stories you would see on "Sex in the City". Only later you to realize that it's better, It's real life with real problems and real solutions. Her optimistic attitude pulls through every time.
I recommend this book to everyone! No mater your age, gender, or preference.
There is a lesson to be learned, or just reminded of! We all have "skeletons
in our closets", but should we? Speak your mind and accept your it as your own!
Thanks Robin, for the inspiration and drive to be me!
